Spring Training is here, everyone is in camp, and so far, so good.

I really like that there's really no hype surrounding this team. I honestly think they have the talent to be a good club, and possibly challenge for the AL West.

This thread is about the 2016 season.

Opening Day is 38 days away!

I think we are improved and will contend. IMHO, this season hinges on our starting rotation and their ability to sustain solid outings for the duration of the season. Kuma, Paxton? If they both go down in April (lord help us)?

From interviews I've watched it would appear we finally have a manager who will try to stick with a batting order that works and not change the lineup, Every. Single. Night. This alone makes me believe this might just finally be the year that ends the playoff drought.

I'm just still not convinced we're not going to look up at the lineup most days and see 3-4 guys with a batting average that starts with 1.

Yeah, remember, you're talking about the Mariners here. We're probably gonna be competitive for third in the AL west, which would be a storybook season for such a barely mediocre franchise.

Good gawd how I hope they can contend this year. I like most of the moves they made in the offseason, but will it translate into wins? You have a new manager with pretty much no experience in that postion. There are so many wildcards and unproven factors going into this year, I can see them being really good or just mediocre again.

I like the focus on obp. We jettisoned some dead weight in the batters box. Fingers crossed.

Maybe there will only be one or two this year?

Nah, if I were going to root for a baseball team it would be the mariners, but to be honest I find the sport dreadfully boring.

So not a fan of the sport which is fine, pissing on our M's before season starts isn't so inspiring.

A lot of talent, kids... A lot of talent.

Don't be surprised at 90+ wins. 85+ losses is also a strong possibility.

Such is the life of a Mariners fan.

Mariners don't want you as a fan anyway.

Spring, a time for hope and renewal. Hope for a postseason, renewal of underachievement.

Mariners conduct business like they don't want anyone as a fan.
