It just seems like this season so many good teams missed out on the World Cup. When could you get these teams with some of the worlds best players not playing in the World Cup?

Depending on what happens tomorrow, it's entirely possible that all of the following teams will not be participating in the 2018 World Cup.

The defending African champion (Cameroon)
The defending South American champion (Chile)
The defending North American champion (USA)
The defending Asian champion (Australia)
The defending Oceania champion (New Zealand)
Italy, the four times World champion
The Netherlands, who were second in 2010 and third in 2014

You hit my point exactly. These are some good teams with some very good players hell Ivory Coast missed the world cup too and they also have a lot of very good players. Gahanna is also a good African team that has missed WC 2018.

This would only be interesting if each country sent their A squads, which I highly doubt would happen with a meaningless tournament.

Still an interesting idea, that could turn into something awesome. But again, only if the participating countries took it seriously.

Not to piss on everyone’s parade here, but why would the teams take it seriously? It’s the losers bracket of the tourney everyone wanted to be in. Hard to get motivated and really go all out when the best you can do it champion of the losers.

Maybe more of a couple friendlies mixed in with a skills competition (beach soccer?) would be better
