Edgar Martinez appears on track to be voted into the Baseball HoF. Through 217 turned in ballots, he's tracking with 90.8% of the vote. This is his final year of eligibility on the ballot.

Yep way overdue. One of the best right handed hitters in his era.
Had the pleasure of accidently meeting him and his Family at a former place of employment over 10 years ago after he had retired.
He and his family couldn’t have been nicer, and he is a genuinely humble man. He was about my height but he was still built like a brick shithouse. Still looked like he could hit at that point.

Me too!

Had to go find the audio of Dave’s call of “the double”...... goosebumps!
Edgar flatout annihilated yankee pitching in that series!

They should have their votes taken away, seriously.

That's awesome.

I'm super happy for Edgar and his family.

He absolutely earned it and it would have been a travesty if he was left out.

Is Edgar the first player inducted primarily as a DH? He should be.

I think Frank Thomas did quite a bit of DH’ing, though Edgar did it for a longer period.

Thomas was more of a position player for the first half of his career, IIRC. Edgar only played 3rd/1st base for a couple of years before he went full time DH, I believe.

Thomas played 1,310 games at DH, 971 at 1B, or 57.4% at DH. I remember when he was inducted, they said he was the first player in the HoF to play most of his career at DH. However, Edgar spent 1,403 games at DH, with 564 at 3B and 28 at 1B, or 70.3% at DH, easily dwarfing anyone else's percentage spent at DH in the HoF. Also, in case you're curious, Harold Baines, who also made the HoF this year, also spent the majority of his career at DH. He played 1,643 games at DH, and 1,042 in the OF, or a total of 61.2% at DH.

Way to go Gar!! Finally!

Just under 85% too, pretty damn good. And kind of fitting he and Baines make it in same year. 2 incredible swings right there.

Awesome news.

Seeing his highlights again makes me miss those good Mariner teams, Niehaus, hell.. even the kingdome.
