  • Erik Swanson, one of the top 2/3 pitching prospects in the organization, was called up today as well..

Short spell, but maybe a quick look at a future starter

Well so far every move they’ve move they made has turned to gold, this will probably be good as well. :)

  • First time I’ve seen someone score from second on a sac fly. I know Mallex fell to a knee but only Billy Hamilton makes that play.

Marco has been impressive, very steady. Excited to see Swanson.

  • So impressed with the approaches at the plate. Collectively they’re working starting pitchers’ pitch counts up and going with the pitch to opposite field. They got a huge dose of breaking pitches and off the plate and they responded. Night and day between previous teams.

Marco just continues to deal-command and cutter are top notch. Another great outing for Brennan and Swarzak and Servais getting the 3 big guys all in the lineup again was great to see. Looking forward to the Stros and Indians coming to town starting Fri-Would love it if we take 4 of 6.

  • Just... wow. After seeing Dee Gordon's insane grab of a sharply hit line drive that nearly took Brennan's head off in the 8th, a hit I'm sure would have gone whizzing by into center field for an easy base hit in most ballparks, that was the moment I started to allow myself to get excited about the prospect that this season could turn out to be a pretty special one for the Ms. Could.

For those who didn't see it, see the second of two video clips under Item #3 here:

Actually, I remember some of the players doing this last year, especially early in the season. Frankly, it might have been part of the reason that some guys were let go. The whole league is pretty bop-happy and they lose sight of the fact that working the count can actually result in good results, like better pitches to hit. Sure, be aggressive at the plate, but be smart about it. Looks like we have a squad that has been paying attention and putting some patience at the plate to good effect.

Hell, look at Vogie. He has great power, but he's also taking walks because he's not swinging at many bad pitches.

  • Well if they can take four games between the upcoming series against Houston and Cleveland, then I will fully buy in. But like any Mariners season, you can't really take them seriously until July. Didn't they have like an 95% chance of making it last season? It did take an epic collapse by us and Oakland basically couldn't lose. Still don't expect us to make the playoffs, but until the wheels fall off I'll stay tuned in.

We used to score from 2nd often on a sac fly in beer league softball 8),but in the majors it’s rare.

To me it's kind of depressing to have this section for a once dominant pitcher who can't do most things like he used to. He is now the fifth starter and doesn't have any of the stuff that once made him special and it's pretty ironic to call it the "king's court now" .. like a constant reminder of "what was"

But anyway, just one man's opinion.

Actually the main reason if they lose this that they have lost 2 of the 3 games. The defense costs them runs.

You have to hope as the bats slow down the defense picks up.

  • And yet ANOTHER clutch home run. Don't care if it's early or not, this is not the same old Mariners imo. Something different about this team. No give up at all. Tell a team what they CAN'T do and they can do great things.
Kind of reminds me of a local football team.

  • I thought he should have caught it, looked like it hit him right on the glove. Especially with how great of a fielder Hamilton is, that play is probably pretty routine for him.

It’s a little similar to the Seahawks. Got rid of a bunch of the older guys, got rid of possibly some weak attitudes, and now it’s a bunch of young and hungry kids mixed with some new older players. Would not shock me that Cano was a big reason for the Mariners struggles down the stretch. We went on our big run without him, and once he came back the team started losing.

  • The Mariners are living proof that all you need to do to win baseball games is hit baseballs. Defense? What defense? Ace starting pitchers? Hardly.

That said, Sadzeck and Brennan look like they're real talents in the bullpen. Perhaps the 'pen is more of a strength than we realized?

Well, the thing is that the bullpen is mostly unproven. Lots of guys without much experience. Now, 6 different guys with a save. :2thumbs:
