This season, we'll take it.

9-6 in 10 innings. Another Vogiebomb to right field. Nice to see the young guys come through.

  • Our bullpen just can't help itself. Why win in nine innings, when you have the world's $h!t bullpen, and can win in ten innings, instead. At least they didn't outright lose it like they did last night. That would just be too... Ordinary.

You're talking apples & pears. Two entirely different situations.

Yesterday, the Ms were behind a run, with EE at bat. Today, it was a tie game with Moore at bat. In the tie game scenario it is the proper call, especially with a sub .200 hitter. Yesterday it would have been the wrong decision.

  • More of a peach guy really.

The score makes no difference to the statistical chances of scoring in those scenarios.

It clearly wasn't the right decision given they went 0 for 3 with RISP the other day. They scored 3 runs the following night.

    EE is batting .248.

  • Stats don't win games, numbers are just numbers, players win games. Encarnacion has been on a tear. He's hit a lot of homers lately. I don't have a problem with that call.

Numbers win games... this isn't the 1980s.. literally the wntirety of baseball uses numbers at every turn. EE has gone 0-6 since that at bat... Vogel 3-5...

It's fine not having an issue with the call. I wanted it played the other way more because Servais almost never does. It was damn near 51-49 to bunt.

However, lymon suggesting it was "wrong" is statistically inaccurate.

    Through high school. Lettered.

But your attempt to old world this is irrelevant as managers do not swing bats and throw balls.

Statistics are not even a trend anymore. It's how things are done. If you want to disagree with hunting in that situation because "EE is hot" then fine. I think they shouldve bunted. Stats leaned towards my decision but not in a way that was overwhelming.

Suggesting that being hot somehow invalidates decades of statistical analysis is folly though.

They get paid $h!t tons of money. Managers limit pitch counts to protect their investment and maintain effectiveness.

It's not pitchers begging to get out of games.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Pitchers are on pitch counts because managers want to increase their effectiveness later in the season and extend their life as a good pitcher.

    Read a book.

  • Pitchers have become glorified pussies that can't finish a game. I watched pitchers routinely finish games throughout my time watching the Anaheim Angels as a kid.

Nolan Ryan and Frank Tanana weren't on pussified pitch counts. They DOMINATED for entire games. These "new" pitchers need to be protected because they don't have the athleticism to go 9 innings.

  • Watch the National League some day. Pitchers get pulled in the 6th/7th inning all the time. It's called pinch hitting to get some offense out of a position that normally bats at sub .100 avg.

  • The game changes, as it should. My dad is a baseball historian, he mainly focuses on the early 1900’s. He tells me about how it would be surprising if a guy wouldn’t throw a complete game. He told me some guys would pitch both games in a double header. Baseball has definitely made a shift to the bullpen, just look at the Brewers.

O' yeah?! Well my Dad was at Yankee Stadium when Gehrig made his, "Today I consider myself the luckiest man in the world," speech.

  • Little more clarity:

Encarnacion still owed more than $15M in salary and buyout. Source says #Yankees and #Mariners essentially splitting the money. SEA paid more to get better prospect - pitcher Juan Then, who should move into 15-20 range on SEA top prospects list.

    From Divish:

Timeline: M's trade Segura and relievers to Philly for Crawford and Carlos Santana M's trade Santana to Cleveland for Encarnacion and comp pick Ms trade Encarnacion to Yankees for Juan Then So the Mariners have netted Crawford, Then and Isaiah Campbell ... not sure on $$

Juan Then was traded to the Yankees for Rumbelow last year

For every Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver and Warren Spahn and, and, and....there was a Sandy Koufax who had to retire at 30 at the height of his career so he could still pick up his car keys at age 60 due to arthritis in his pitching elbow or a Dizzy Dean or, or, or....
It IS about the amount of money invested in these guys more than anything. Are there pitchers nowdays that could be like Ryan, Tanana, et. al.? I'm sure there are but it's the choice of the organizations to not find out if there is.

Pretty much this. We all knew this was coming. That amazing run at the start of the season kind of skewered everybody's expectations, but DiPoto is sticking to the original plan and that's a good thing. I think they'll try to hang onto Seagar, but maybe not. Santana is probably next. Or maybe Gordon. Between Crawford, Beckham, and Moore the middle infield is probably set for the next couple of seasons. Vogie can handle 1st Base if needed, or Healey is coming off the IL soon. That would be a decent platoon there.

We all knew the fire sale was still ongoing. :229031_shrug:

It's part of the penalty for bringing those old guys in. Unless they can play out their entire deal, it will cost a team to unload them.

They left in ML 3 batters too long.

Except he was getting the ground balls he is known for. A couple went through holes and JP whiffed on a pretty sure double play. Not all Leake's fault. At least the BP covered it. Elias was looking good last night. Nobody knows how long he can keep it up, though.

  • Time to jinx the sweep!

Hey, took a road series against a top NL team. Smith and Crawford are tearing it up at the top of the order. Looks like they may have found a couple of arms in the bullpen. Adams gets a little wild, but pretty good stuff. Elias with a 6 out save. Guess he's probably not available today.

Leake can generally give us 6-7 good innings and hold it close, usually.

  • Seager and Beckham gotta go. Both have been in the league for a good number of years yet haven't broke through yet. No point in keeping them around.
