  • Got 2 of the Nats top 30 prospects along with another 2 prospects out of today's trades. And. Little but of salary relief for Leake.

Decent haul for a bunch of guys nobody really wanted.

Got some good karma with the Leake trade as well. He's from.thete and has a paralyzed father in the state.

Yep now is the time to see what everyone has and how they react to certain situations.
This is a throwaway year, but it’s hard to watch. It’s even worse when your team is severely lacking talent and the other team is loaded with talent.

Oh well, I guess some young guy won't have to wait 'til September for his call up. :229031_shrug:

We're pretty well stocked with infielders, though, and utility players. If we're gonna keep getting our asses kicked, we might as well get good long looks at the prospects we spent so much capital on.

Felix finished rehab assignment. Will apparently start this Saturday (I know :229031_shrug: ).

Justus Sheffield being called up, scheduled to start this Friday (incorrectly said next Tuesday).

Gonna see some more of the young guys. :2thumbs:

    Decent outing overall.

Yeah they have some kids lighting it up now.

Kelenic had a 2 homer game the other day. Most of the “talent” is playing together @ AA, Julio Rodriguez is one of the few exceptions.

If you don’t go there already Prospect Insider is a good place to see how the kids on the farm are doing. It’s usually updated daily.

That kid is going to be a flat stud in about 4 years. He's still just 19. He and Kelenic are the best hopes this franchise has at turning it around in a few years.

He is still in A ball. The worst thing you can do is bring him up now, have him struggle, and kill his confidence.
Even HOF’s like Jr, and Edgar spent years in the minors.

The ideal thing to do if he keeps raking is to bring him up after the current AA studs as a group make it to the bigs.

  • He's gonna go play fall ball in Peoria with Kelenic as well after the season. I would imagine he has a good chance to start next season in Arkansas with an outside shot at going straight to Tacoma.

Either way I want to get to a bunch of Tacoma games next season to see Kelenic and a few other young guys play.

Sure, but why? Everybody knows we're not going to the playoffs this year, and probably next. No reason to risk accelerating their careers now. For a more recent example, just look at Zunino. He was called up on the fast track, thinking we had a shot at the playoffs. Instead, he spent years yoyoing up and down from Tacoma trying to get his swing in shape. Luckily, we got some trade value for him. He's coming along, but it's been what 4 or 5 years getting right?

We're all excited about the young talent we picked up this year, but I have to come down on the 'be patient, do it right' side of the argument.

Braden Bishop starting in LF, made a nice running catch to save a double and end an inning.

Was at this game and saw more Mariner fans than I
    expected as there was plenty..
JS looked pretty good in this one and it was tight until the 7th.
Had fun but gotta say it will likely be my last Wrigley visit.
The area is just horrible to get to and leave.
Parking was $40.00..It used to be you could park in the
neighborhood a few blocks away easily but time changes
    things.
I'll still go to games but to the White Sox park which has it's
own free parking and sits off the expressway..
It is also cheaper in a lot of ways compared to Cubs..
So next July ..M's/Sox it is..
Good game but I'm tired :2thumbs:

Closers are a dime a dozen.
If a guy throws a lot of innings the year before, he usually has a subpar year the next year.
Diaz’s problem is he only has 2 pitches. If he isn't getting one of them over the hitters will “sit” on the other.

The M’s got maximum value out of him IMHO if Kelenic stays healthy and is as advertised.

They didn’t get maximum value out of the Paxton trade IMHO, should have gotten more for a power lefty.

  • Well that was quite the shellacking. 21-1 loss.

Felix 2 innings 7 ER. Season era 6.96. Bringing him back recently was pointless--those valuable innings could've gone to a few prospects.

Here's hoping we at least get to see a couple starts for Dunn with the Travelers' season over today.

  • Yeah, kind of figured they were throwing in the towel by putting Felix out there. :Dunno:

Was watching the 'Hawks anyway. Clicked over once, that was enough. :34853_doh:

Apparently, now they are set up to put the young guys out there this week. Haven't heard the results of the Arkansas playoff yet, but a few young guys there will be coming up.

Interesting read in the Times today about the young guys, and how they're trying to keep them together as they move up the minors so they can build camaraderie.

    https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/mar ... maraderie/

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — What came first, the winning or the team chemistry? In the stories romanticizing a winning team’s camaraderie in the clubhouse, that debate is rarely mentioned.

Do teams win because they have great chemistry? Or is chemistry a product of winning? Are they mutually necessary?

Since general manager Jerry Dipoto was hired, the Mariners have pushed more to the analytical side. They don’t sentimentalize long-standing narratives or “this is how it’s always been” thinking. They’ve tried to think creatively about building from within, whether it’s biomechanics, mental skills training, leadership techniques or technological advancement. And they aren’t afraid to tell you about it.

Yet, in the sauna that is Dickey-Stephens Park in the summer, the Mariners’ Class AA affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers, find themselves part of a hopeful experiment for future success. The experiment is an amalgam of the new concepts the Mariners want to become the norm and an emphasis that building team chemistry isn’t some antiquated premise but is vital to eventually ending the longest current postseason drought in sports. And maybe, just maybe, winning a World Series title.

  • Will Felix retire, or will his pride get in the way?

I suspect he'll try to catch on somewhere else. He's done here.

  • This franchise bottomed out for the season yesterday. As bad as it gets and that's saying something considering it's the mariners.

  • Kyle Lewis (in the lineup), Dunn, Walton, and Art Warren (99mph fastball) called up to Seattle from AA today.

That's pretty damn Mariners right there.

Manages to break up a no hitter in the 7th with a 3 run homer (yeah... 3 runs)
