SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle Mariners president Chuck Armstrong says he will retire after spending 28 of the past 30 seasons in that position with the ballclub.

The team announced Armstrong's intentions on Monday afternoon. He will retire effective Jan. 31 and the club says it's beginning the process of finding a successor and starting that transition.

  • At the end of next year. It's about damn time. This offseason is critical to see what young talent we ship out.

  • Great news, too bad it didn't happen 10 years ago. One assclown down, one more to go before I can start attending mariner games again.

  • Going to be hard to find someone as inept as him but I'll wager they will manage.

  • Too bad he was only part of the problem. Its nice that he will be gone, but Lincoln still needs to go too.

  • Finally, a glimmer of hope.

But besides Lincoln, the team is still owned by faceless Nintendo in Japan.

I think when Howard goes it means the team has been sold.

Easy to say when you don't have any emotional connection to the team

  • Howard Lincoln is the bigger problem. A much bigger problem. And he's said he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon. Whoever is hired to replace Chuck will have to report to Lincoln. Armstrong was part of the problem. But a big reason why he was is Lincoln and Nintendo and how they run the team. Lincoln is ridiculously meddlesome and overbearing. Until Lincoln is gone and Nintendo sells the team, we're still in the exact same spot.

Yep. The only way I see Lincoln leaving is if they are sold.

  • Is this true? If so the Mariners have a chance at relevance again and with that my interest in baseball again (always been my favorite sport) but the current Mariner organization disgusts me.
