Reports from France indicate Schumacher blinked as he was brought out of the coma and responded well in neurological tests.

Injurys like that can literally take years to get any resolution. I believe it was Parnelli Jones that had a son with a severe head injury that took 4-5 years to get any semblence of a normal life back. He now has a family but still isn't the sharpest and will probably never take over his Fathers business empire.

Jones sold a car at last years Barrett Jackson and the money went to the group/hospital that saved his son and continues to do that work.

Having read about it further, it isn't that great news. He's gone from vegetative to minimally aware which very few people ever make a meaningful recovery from. This guy sums it up: http://formerf1doc.wordpress.com/2014/06/16/good-news/

He may go on to make a further recovery but it looks very unlikely and it looks like his quality of life might be really poor.

He's 6 months down the line and is minimally aware. That's the number one outcome you don't want from a head injury.
