I have done almost no sports betting. In looking up the line for next weeks Hawks game I see this at the Mirage - SEA-5.5 -110 SDG+5.5 -110. I get that the hawks are 5.5 point favorites and to win the bet they have to win by 6 or more. What I don't understand is the -110?

Appreciate the help of any friendly degenerates. :)

That's the money line. When it's a minus that's what you have to bet to win $100. If it's a plus then that's what you win if you bet $100. So in this case you have to bet $110 on the money line to win $100.

So if I hand over $110 I will get $210 back minus the vig?

Thanks,

Going to be in Vegas this weekend. If the line still looks like that, I am going to be betting a couple Benjamins. There is no way San Diego holds us to less than a 6 point lead.

No. IIRC: If you win, there is no 'vig.' So you should receive $210 back if you win.

Caveat: It's been awhile since I've bet on sports, so if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

If you bet $100 and win, you win $100.
If you bet $100 and lose, you lose $110
The $10 extra bucks is the vig.

-110 isn't the money line.
They usually don't have money lines in the news paper. Only the regular line and the over under line.
Casinos and online gambling sites have money lines.
If you bet the money line all your team has to do is win.
For this weeks game vs SD if you take the seahawks to win you have to bet $250.00 to win $100.00
If you take SD. And bet $100.00 you win $200.00

This game could be a blowout or a shootout, but I seriously doubt the Hawks win by 6 or less. Our offense is gonna run SD's d--one way or the other.

While you're there (I have been for the last several days myself :D ) you might consider taking the Titans at home vs. Dullass giving 3 1/2 and/or AZ on the road vs. the Vagiants giving 2 1/2. Obviously not locks but man those two teams (NY and Dullass) are brutally bad.

Our offense will be like a Pachinko game against their slow linebackers.

This is a money maker.

I agree man, and so do the wiseguys in Vegas. I have $500 riding on the Hawks beating a 5.5 point spread.

Oh my, I haven't looked at this thread since the SD game. The reason I was asking about point spreads is a co worker and I have put together a little betting game. We each start out with 10k and make bets on each Seahawk game, You can bet on the Money Line, the Spread, the Over/Under and an extra category we call Double Spread. DS pays 1.5, 5 times your bet depending on how many points doubling the spread increases the spread. under 4.5 pays 1.5, 5 to 13.5 pays 3 and 14 and over pays 5 times your bet. $5 actual dollars rides on the outcome.

I had the same sentiment as many here that we were going to crush SD and bet heavily on the spread and of course we lost that game and so I took a big hit. At the moment my co worker is up a little over 2k. This week I'm betting heavily on the Moneyline at 400 to win 100 and if it works out we'll be close to tied. It's been a fun bit of silliness to enjoy along with watching the Hawks.

Go Hawks.

Damn! Dallas winning has crushed me. I am down almost 8k. Still have $2872 and will have to get creative and lucky to make a come back. The two games I bet heavily on were games we lost. Fro crying out loud. Glad it's not real money.
