  • SEATTLE -- Police say four Safeco Field cleaning workers helped themselves to thousands of dollars worth of team merchandise after the team's final home game of the season.

"Some of their cleaning people had -- contracted cleaning people -- had come in and stolen about $11,000 worth of jerseys," said Det. Patrick Michaud with the Seattle Police Department.

The suspects allegedly broke into a merchandise kiosk on the main concourse. What they didn't realize is that security cameras captured the whole thing.

Police say the crew's boss helped identify the men.

"Their supervisor was able to look at the video and go, 'Yeah, I know these guys,'" Michaud said.

Sports merchandise is a multi-billion dollar business, and it's like gold to diehard fans like David Tourtellot and his wife, who said they recently spent $500 on Seahawks and Mariners merchandise.

The four suspects were employed by a Gig Harbor firm called Labor Works. A company manager said he wouldn't comment until he got more facts about the crime.

But fans like Tourtellot are more than happy to speak their minds.

    "Good job, nail'em," he said.
