  • I'm halfway through Punisher and I love it. Kid I agree on the Homeland Security woman, its the one character that doesn't seem to fit really.

  • Finished up Godless last night, really enjoyed it. Highly recommended for anyone who digs westerns...........and wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Daniels is nominated for an Emmy, he kills it as the bad guy.

  • Punisher- Pretty good series overall. But villain is a bit weak imo.

  • Finished Season 2 of Stranger Things and agree with the majority. I loved it. Sure there are always nuances to nitpick but overall I thought it was great. Looking forward to S3!

And David, yeah that sucks about House of Cards but I agree with you...S5 was underwhelming as you can clearly tell they are running out of rich plot to keep the Underwoods in power. Just a damn shame about Spacey. Always loved him as an actor.

I enjoyed it as well, but there was potential for a hilarious line that they missed. Daniels was talking about his trip out west that they set up perfectly to tie into Dumb and Dumber and they didn't take it. Something about making the trip out on the back of his horse, but as he was delivering the line my brother and I looked at each other. I said "moped" and he said "sheepdog" at the same time.

Ozark is good, but nowhere near IMO Breaking Bad........which is what most people are comparing it to.

Which I know is unfair, but I do recommend Ozark. Interesting premise and locale.

Just finished Ozark and enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to season 2. Interesting to read others impressions of the show. I didn't like the first episode. I thought they raced through it and almost didn't want to watch the next episode. I liked the story and the characters, but felt they didn't justify and flesh out enough of why things were happening. At the time I said Vince Gilligan would have made 3 episodes out of it and I would have been good with that.

Had a few issues with the ending but won't discuss in mixed company.

Yep, Ozark suffers from some lazy plot devices and ham fisted writing. To get to the next plot turn, a LOT of too easy and uncharacteristic things happened..............for no other reason then they didn't know how to advance the story.

Still enjoyed Ozark, but it's nowhere near the insane writing of Gilligan and Breaking Bad.

I did not enjoy Defenders very much, thought the writing was super lazy and contrived, like they were just going through the motions. I much prefer the stand alone character series. I don't care if they do another season.

I would like to recommend Atypical though, REALLY good new series. Reminds me of the John Hugh's movies, some very honest, clever and funny writing.........which is hard to find these days. Not easy to write honest dialogue between teenager to teenager, and teenager to parent. Great cast, highly recommended, great for the wifey and kids too (older kids).

Just started this last night, I'm enjoying it.

I'm five episodes in, good stuff.

Not a big fan of dubbing, but Netflix's production value and attention to detail is so insanely good, you forget about the dubbing pretty quickly.

Dark is an edgier darker more serious Stranger Things.

Not sure bout your wife, it's pretty brutal and violent. It's very Boardwalk Empire-esque in that respect.

But it's a GREAT series, one of BBC's best.

  • Finally binged Mindhunter in about 2 days. Overall pretty good show, definitely some weaker parts and dialogue is corny at times. Very well done during the interviews with serial killers though, some genuinely creepy moments. Holden grew on me too, felt a bit stiff at the start but steadily improved. His girlfriend on the other hand is a terrible actress, was just speaking lines.

Looking forward to see if they build up the BTK story more or if they just go in a new direction with a 'new serial killer' every season. I know Fincher said he'd like to go for 4-5 seasons and I was a little disappointed we didn't get to see more at the end. I believe they're right around the year he started in Kansas.

Yeah definitely has an emo millennial vibe no doubt but I like the show. Some of the characters crack me up and while not a "Harry Potter" type, I dig the magical element that is the center piece of the show. I am down to the final episode of Season 2. Been binging!

Also helps with all the cuties on the show.

The Punisher character was introduced in season 2 of Daredevil. This is season 1 of his standalone series.

I agree with you. The idea of the movie was very intriguing, but it wasn't executed all that great. The pacing was off, it seemed like things were either going 100 mph or very slow. A lot of the dialogue was very boring. Netflix does better with their shows than their movies at the moment.

Thought the movie was really poor... especially given who was involved. Also, kinda shits on the real troubles of inner city LA that Ayers reflected on so well with his other movies

Not sure what happened to Ayer, he made three really good movies in a row (Training Day, End of Watch and Fury).

Now he's laid two HUGE turds in Suicide Squad and Bright. Maybe sci-fi/fantasy isn't his gig? Idk, but really disappointed in Bright, it has a lot of potential.

I did see that Smith has already signed on to do Bright 2, so maybe they can regroup and figure out what went wrong.

  • Metalhead had potential. But it just kinda fizzled out and didn't go anywhere exciting. That episode actually reminded me of how an entire season of American Horror Story plays out: Start off exciting, stall and go nowhere for a bit, and then leave your audience saying "Wtf?" and scratching their heads.

Definitely enjoyed the first 3 episodes before that, though.

My wife and I tried to watch it, I think we made it 2-3 episodes.

I think it's a Canadian show? Idk, pretty meh for me, the pilot was promising but then it devolved pretty quickly into a mediocre network show.

You want a good time travel show, watch Dark. It's a German/Netflix production, so you have to get past the dubbing, but it's REALLY well done. Kind of a darker more serious Stranger Things.

However, it would be a great show.. could do more

I liked Bright, it was thoroughly entertaining.

    I enjoyed Bright.

    A lot of action.

  • Check out The End of the F****** World. Don't ban me, that's what it's called. 8 short episodes. You can get through it in a few hours. If you're into dry, dark humor mixed with macabre themes and mommy/daddy issues... well that's a bit too specific to be a genre I suppose but that's what this show is. Give it a try.

I was just hitting this thread to recommend this show.

It's Coen Brothers meets John Hugh's meets David Lynch..............all wrapped up into tidy 20 minute episodes of quirky dark british writing and humor.

I oddly find myself not wanting their to be more seasons though. I know that sounds weird, but IMO it was a perfect movie with the perfect beginning, middle and end. It's just that the writers and producers chose to make a series out of it.

  • 6 episodes into Mindhunter. Really like it. I watched some of the real interviews side by side with some of the ones depicted in this show and they are spot on.

Me and the wife really like it. But then again, we're huge sci-fi fans, especially when dealing with time travel so maybe we're a bit biased. We're up to Season 1 episode 6. A buddy of mine said that season 2 is even better than season 1.

Just watched the whole season in a couple days. I enjoyed it a lot. I liked the first half of the season more, the last few episodes seemed to drag a little. Would definitely recommend it though.

  • I might try watching the end of the f****** world again....I watched part of the first episode, but turned it off because after Black Mirror I was tired of listening to british accents. They really are a little overbearing and start to wear on ya after awhile.

  • The wife and I watch The Travelers. We like it. Totally understood it's not critically-acclaimed writing or anything but we have invested in the characters and story line and like Blue Thunder said, I dig the time-travelling aspect (even though you have to suspend your expectations regarding the obvious paradoxes you encounter in a TV show, lol).

Just started season 3 of the Peaky Blinders. Really good show. Slow as hell the first few episodes but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Sometimes I have to use the sub titles as some of the character's accents are very hard to understand.

I think Peaky Blinders might be next on my list, so the head's up about the slow start is appreciated. Sometimes it's hard to push through a show that starts slow.

  • Yeah no problem. I nearly gave up on it close to halfway through the first season but it gets good and the characters are fantastic.

  • It's not Netflix, but Showtime has a new show called The Chi. It's great, I've never seen The Wire but I've seen people compare it to that. It has some intriguing characters and some nice acting.
