  • To me, nothing is better than a show or movie including a musical piece that matches the moment. Spoilers for these, but still so good.

GOT - Light of the Seven

Scrubs - Winter -no sitcom can ever match Dr. Cox. Or this scene if you understand what happens before it.

Cloud Atlas - People didn't like it because it forced them to think. One of my favorite movies, probably ever.

Quite honeslty my favorite TV scene ever:

  • Important question; does it have to be original to the show/film, or can it be something that has been around forever and is just used really well?

If it's used well, absolutely include it. One of my favorite things is showrunners/directors who choose a perfect song for a scene.

Movie was awesome but this song just made the finale so much better

  • Ok, then! Here are some of my nominations, not in any particular order. One that I'll avoid linking since this isn't the shack is the scene from American Wedding where Stiffler and the gay guy have their dance off; hilariously well done with great music to match. Great part in an otherwise average film.

Can't find the full proper scene on YouTube for this one, but it shows the last 2/3rds of it and the song Battleme - Hey Hey, My My is used phenomenally well in it:

  • I liked the Interstellar soundtrack, that movie was wonderfully crafted. GoT Light of the Seven and The North Remembers will always be iconic to me. The whole Cersei/Sept scene was phenomenal. It doesn't get better than that.

Finally got around to watching Sicario and thought the scene where they're going to cross the border to Juarez was awesome. The music is just so menacing and the tension slowly builds. Great stuff.

I also really dug the Stranger Things soundtrack, I'll listen to it at work from time to time. The title song is great, but Kids is probably my favorite.

Just a couple off the top of my head, I'll think of more throughout the day I'm sure.

Hell yeah. Heavy Metal the movie wasn't exactly high art, but the soundtrack doesn't get near the credit it deserved as being one of the first compilation style soundtracks that REALLY focused on a great eclectic collection of music and artists, as opposed to just the typical style of hiring a composer, writing songs, etc.

Grand Funk, Journey, Devo, Cheap Trick...........and Black Sabbath?

As a child of the 80's, I was also in love with all the John Hughe's movie soundtracks. He was really the first director that not only got teenagers, but he got their music. His movie's alone launched the careers of dozens of artists that weren't really getting played on the radio, and a LOT of kids didn't have access to cause they didn't have MTV yet.

New Order, Simple Minds, OMD, Oingo Boingo, Psycadelic Furs.........and my favorite underrated Hugh's movie track, Killing Joke from Weird Science.

If there is no Seahawk football in heaven, then we will never die.

  • There are just too many to name, so I'll just name a rare case where I don't really care for the movie, or most of the music in it on its own, but I remember thinking during the movie "man, they really nailed the music in this flick". Garden State.

  • I know Return of the Jedi gets a harsh treatment from the Ewok haters, but that throne room sequence with the Vader/Luke fight and Anakin's redemption are a large reason why I grew up a Star Wars nerd and why Jedi is still my favorite film in the franchise. The music is underrated, and some of the best from the saga.

Also, this person thankfully omitted Vader's hamfisted "NO!" that Lucas ruined the blu-ray release with. I never cared all that much about Greedo shooting first, I don't think it really ruined the fabric of the movie. Vader's scream, though, IMHO, turned Anakin's act of redemption from a selfless one into a selfish one.
This is becoming far too common for my tastes.

I thought it was a needed clarification. I had thought for 30+ years that Vader had picked up the Emperor and hurled him into the chasm by accident. What a revelation!

Rocky: Going the Distance - We all know this theme, it is very motivational and you can't help feeling like you can accomplish the impossible.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMGetv40FkI

Howls Moving Castle: Carousel of Life - Howls moving Castle is a whimsical animated film by Miyazaki. The film switches from dark, to light-hearted emulating the ups and downs of life. The song does a good job of capturing the essence of the carousel we're all on known as life.

The Schindlers List theme... Haunting, it sends chills down my spine every time I listen to it. Especially when you imagine scenes from the movie.

So good its been copied by other composers, reused in many trailers, movies (kick ass, walking dead), countless commercials, and covered by many artists on youtube.

There are some legitimately great songs from Titanic; forget Celine Dion, though she's hated more than she deserves for it; blame the radio stations for overplaying the hell out of that song for YEARS, because I remember when Titanic was still in theaters and for a while afterwards, everyone and their mother agreed that the soundtrack to Titanic was one for the ages.

Absolutely agree, I mean...movie was the top grossing movie for over a decade for a reason. Man, if this scene didn't affect you as a human, IDK what to say. Those people have to be empty inside.

  • I'm not sure there has been a film released since Titanic that had that big of a unilateral impact on people. The film itself, the soundtrack, the discussion surrounding it in social culture and the media, etc.

Not talking about total dollars accrued.
