  • A teaser is supposed to give you a tantalizing quick glimpse. This was a slow-rolled, drawn-out amalgamation of random stuff that was largely unconnected and which didn't entice much.

I'll still see if opening night, of course, which is why they don't even have to worry about putting effort into releasing a teaser trailer... :)

Also, the fact that most of the panels at Star Wars Celebration were live-streamed this year and those that weren't were still quickly posted online really takes away a fair bit of the excitement of being there.

  • WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — J.J. Abrams will return to the director’s chair for the final chapter of the latest “Star Wars” trilogy, Lucasfilm announced Tuesday.

Abrams, who co-wrote and directed 2015’s “The Force Awakens,” will also write the still-unsubtitled Episode IX with Chris Terrio.

The filmmaker is stepping in to helm Episode IX after Lucasfilm announced last week that “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow was leaving the project.

The second film in the trilogy, “The Last Jedi,” is directed and written by Rian Johnson and is due in theaters this December.

Episode IX is scheduled for release in 2019.

It's not about who was in place before Abrams, it's about the fact that Abrams made a very average Star Wars film to begin with. At least, that's it for me.

    I concur with Montana. Ugh.

  • I thought TFA was awesome. It was fun and it flowed perfectly. The characters were actually likeable, and the ship flying scenes actually gave me a rush....all things that were lacking in episodes 1-3, and that are somewhat lacking from most modern action/sci-fi movies (ie Guardians of the Galaxy movies).

Rogue One was a good movie, but the characters and settings felt a bit more dull.

Then again, I also like Dark Souls. So.......

I mean... she either dies or she's written out of the story -- which would be really lame. What did you think they were going to do?

With that said, there is undoubtedly some serious misdirection going on in this trailer. My guesses...

    - Kylo won't be the one who kills Leia. He witnesses her death after choosing to keep her alive and it starts his transition back to the light
    - Snoke and/or Rey = Skywalker clone(s)
    - Snoke actually wants Rey, not Kylo, and he's speaking to Rey at the beginning of the trailer

I'm sure I'm missing stuff, but those three points were the first things to come to mind after the first viewing. I think this is going to be a wild ride of a Star Wars movie.

Yeah but they have to set up something, she filmed a lot right before she died, she was suppose to be continued and from what I picked up they had to change up plot lines and re edit stuff to incorporate her passing away.

His scandal is not an outlier. The very culture of Hollywood is one of sexual predation. Weinstein's been doing this for a very long time and the only reason we're just now learning about it is because he has been protected by others in the business as well as law enforcement.

    Time to flush the toilet.

Besides, I don't even think Star Wars is a Weinstein property. The Weinsteins own and distribute Weinstein, Radius and Dimension films. Star Wars is owned by Disney, Lucas Films, Bad Robot and 20th Century.

Like I said, Weinstein isn't alone. Sexual predation, perversion, and pedophilia are endemic to the Hollywood culture. Disney is especially guilty as there have been SO many child stars to emerge from Disney with major, major problems. Nevermind Disney's history of sexualizing preteens.

I'm going to avoid soapboxing further in this thread, but I encourage you to find the interview with Corey Feldman where he talks about the number one problem in Hollywood being pedophilia and sexual predation. He refers to the Hollywood culture as a "den of vipers", where child stars are passed around like sexual party favors. He asserts that both he and Corey Haim were sexually predated upon by multiple big names in the business. I tend to believe his story.

I get it, and I believe all of it.

But it's not going to prevent me from enjoying film and TV. If that's the case, we all might as well just sit at home and stare at a wall, cause no matter what artistic medium you enjoy, you can find moral reasons to not watch or listen.

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi' trailer: What you may not have noticed

    The general in danger

Let's break this down: So it appears that Kylo Ren is wavering about whether to fire on his own mother, General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher). But Fisher had already filmed "Last Jedi" before her untimely death late in 2016, and from all we've heard, was expected to return for Episode IX. So she must survive this film, right? That's still no explanation as to how the character's absence will be handled in Episode IX, but we likely won't see her expire at the hands of her own child.

  • I'm gonna toot my own horn a bit here and post this: http://www.elleuk.com/life-and-culture/ ... over-star/

Daisy Ridley did not like her own performance in TFA.

Daisy Ridley wrote:I didn't think I was good in the first film, and I was struggling with that.

I took a lot of flak around here for being almost the only person that thought TFA was something less than a 9/10 when it came out; I felt that it just wasn't that great for a variety of reasons. I later made a comment in the Wonder Woman thread that it had the female lead that TFA wishes it had.

I have nothing against Daisy Ridley, but hopefully she's a better lead in Episode VIII than she was in Episode VII. Sounds like she has realized some things and will be, so my hopes are higher for VIII today than they were yesterday. I look forward to finding out regardless. :)

  • There's plenty to bitch about when it comes to TFA, Daisy's performance is about the furthest thing from the problem for me. Her, as a young actor, being overly critical of her first major role is hardly a stretch. I'm much more concerned with where they take the story and how they develop the characters in TLJ than I am worried about any of the actors' performances. Well, except maybe Benicio. He scares me a little.

Star Wars being referred to by it's acronyms is nothing new. The original trilogy is often referred to as ANH, ESB, and RotJ online. Chill out.

  • Never read any of the books, but have gotten into wiki black holes at times. I'm really interested to see where they go with the idea that the Jedi need to end. I can understand why Luke, after "monking" away for however much time, would come to think that. Particularly in a temple where the original wielders/protectors had been, if that's where he's actually at. There are parallels that can be made in the real world that have to do with basically any religion or belief system. The idea that things can be all good or all bad is a heinous lie. Luke was the one who was supposed to bring balance to the force and has obviously yet to do that. That will likely change even if it means his death, but he's likely realizing that you can't become whole while only being half and that one literally causes the other to exist. Or maybe not cause, but they are inevitably linked. In the real world, this is why things like the constitution and the bill of rights are so extremely important. You see how things go back and forth to the extreme while factions try to use whichever in some sort of self righteousness and, in general, the pendulum just swings back with more....force.
