  • I was bummed when I heard this wasn't going to involve Sasha Baron Cohen, but after being a big fan of Malek's work in Mr. Robot and seeing this trailer, I'm all in with both feet.

Love Queen, love Freddy Mercury........so I'm excited.

  • New trailer dropped today.

This looks incredible, Queen's music was made for the big screen............it's worth going just for the score.

  • Seen some of the clips on youtube a few weeks ago, this really could be the surprise movie of the year, it has a legendary figure with controversial subject matter, at least for that time and it is about a legendary band. Hey maybe this could spark the return of real Rock Music.

It is also something very different then what we have been given the last few years, not fantasy, not Marvel, Not DC, not Star Wars.

Great points, and IMO music biopics if done right are just flat out awesome, especially if you're a fan of the artist.

Walk the Line, Ray, The Doors, Straight Outa Compton..................all some of my favorite movies of the past 10-15 years. Great music just makes any movie better.

  • Caught Bohemian Rhapsody over the weekend.

Verdict from this bigtime Queen fan? Highly enjoyable biopic, but very safe.

You could definitely tell that the remaining members of the band were executive producers, they didn't allow the writers to dig deep into Mercury's private life and risk tarnishing his legacy. So the story is a very straight forward telling of the band's history, and while it does dabble into Mercury's personal life, it doesn't dive very deep.

Which is fine if you just want to go see a fun movie with obviously an insanely incredible soundtrack and re-telling of how Queen's music came to be.

But I would have liked to see what Sasha Baron Cohen could have done with Mercury. Not that Malik did a bad job, he was great. But I would have liked to see something a little darker and truthful, which is what Cohen wanted.

I will say the last 20 minutes is worth the price of admission, it's a shot by shot recreation of Queen's Live Aid performance, and it's brilliantly executed.
