  • Apparently, the moon will be favorable, so if it doesn't rain ( :( ) we could get a decent show.

The best meteor show of the year is coming to a sky near you

Get ready to look up in the sky: The best meteor shower of the year is coming.

According to NASA’s meteor expert Bill Cooke, the fireball-rich Perseids are on the way, with best viewing on the nights of Aug. 11-13 this year, he told Space.Com.

The Perseid meteor shower is an August treat every year because the Earth passes through a trail left by the 16-miles-wide comet of dust, ice, rock and organic material called the Comet Swift-Tuttle, Space.Com explains.

  • Cool, always look forward to these...Some years are spectacular. Saturday looks rainy but Sunday night may be a good night for viewing for those in Western WA.

  • Heck, I may have to spend another night in the mountains then. Come back on Monday. That is if I go up. There may be a lot of smoke up there too, so I may have to come back on Sunday early morning. Maybe take my Telescope and camera and see what happens. Camp is just north of New Meadows Idaho. About 20 miles from the fires.

  • I'll be camping in the Montana wilderness for the nights of the 15th and 16th. Maybe there will be a few left.
