If the trailer is going to be boring, at least it does it without showing much. Besides, I don't feel this move needs much hype to drive people to theaters.

I was actually talking to my wife the other week about this. I actually think the less marketing the better. At least for now. I think they should go dark until a couple weeks after Captain Marvel.

On a side note, I pretty much ruined Ultron because I watched every clip released online and when I left the movie I realized there was only one scene in the entire movie that I had not seen at least some of. So less is more for me at this point.

Really? Do married people actually do that, in real life? :D

    Sorry, couldn't resist a silly selective mis-quote!

  • I wonder what would happen if a studio refused to do an actual trailer for a big movie.

Like, built a trailer that was just a title card confirming the date and...nothing else. No footage. Not a single scene from the movie.

In this day and age, would the lack of pre-released footage actually get MORE buzz for the film?

I want to see someone try it. Sounds like a thing J.J. Abrams might do.

I think for something as well established as Avengers it could work. Not for a brand new movie though.

  • I'm so lost with all this Marvel stuff. I don't know when and where all this stuff takes place. Creating a "universe" or whatever where there's all these recurring characters all over the place is just too damn confusing.

I'm really into all these Marvel movies, love 'em. Seen them all multiple times. And was trying to explain it all to a co-worker who hasn't seen any of them, I started out "Well it all started 10 years ago with Iron Man....."

He cut me off and waved his hand. 10 years? Yep, and like 20 movies now! Yea if you haven't been into it and keeping up with all of it, it must seem outrageous. But at the same time its extremely exciting if you are into it. I mean in the history of films has there been anything like this? 10 years and 20 movies in the making, with a final climax of Avengers 4? So awesome.

  • Were all the movies made in order of when the events were supposed to take place? Or do they jump around all over the place? I'd be interesting in getting into this, but I really would rather not have to make spreadsheets of all this information just to keep up 8)

  • They weren't made exactly in chronological order, I think the first Captain America throws it out of whack, it takes place in the 1940s, but was the 5th movie. The Guardians movies basically take place back to back, but are 3 years apart. Other than that, pretty close.

I think this is a good list to watch them in:

    https://www.cnet.com/pictures/watch-eve ... ght-order/

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
    Iron Man (2008)
    The Incredible Hulk (2008)
    Iron Man 2 (2010)
    Thor (2011)
    Marvel's The Avengers (2012)
    Iron Man 3 (2013)
    Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
    Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
    Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
    Ant-Man (2015)
    Captain America: Civil War (2016)
    Doctor Strange (2016)
    Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
    Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
    Black Panther (2018)
    Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
    Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

    Now get busy! Enjoy!

The only one that's really out of place time-wise is Captain America: The First Avenger, which is set in WW2 instead of current time.

Nice. This is one way to start out organized. I've seen some of these movies...maybe I'll re-watch them all. I sure as hell don't remember very much from the movies I watch anyway.

For a big-name movie in a series it'd absolutely work. Probably way, way more buzz than giving it all away in the trailers. Probably way too many leaks, though.
