This sounds interesting, and they say it is much cheaper than other chemical ways of doing CO2 removal. Quote: Sea urchin nickel 'trick' could be key to capturing carbonBy Matt McGrath Environment correspondent, BBC News
Researchers say that the natural ability of sea urchins to absorb CO2 could be a model for an effective carbon capture and storage system. Newcastle University scientists discovered by chance that urchins use the metal nickel to turn carbon dioxide into shell. They say the technique can be harnessed to turn emissions from power plants into the harmless calcium carbonate. The research is in the journal, Catalysis Science and Technology.

New entry on the list of stuff we DIDN'T expect in our dystopian future: earth's entire land surface overrun by seashells!
But in all seriousness, I hope it works.

So what will we do with all of the calcium carbonate?

Coming soon: entire cities made of sea shells.

I've been saying for awhile now that the greenest thing you can do is toss your paper in the trash instead of recycling. That way, the carbon in the paper goes in a landfill and doesn't re-enter the long-term carbon cycle. Meanwhile, we cut down trees to make new paper, trapping the carbon and allowing new trees to absorb CO2.
Well, maybe I'm just being a contrarian. But it sounds good as far as it goes!
