wow, this thread turned wired in a couple of days.. To me, I guess its is how you want to look at as an artist and a musician. Grand Master Flash is a musician. DJ Pauly D is an artist. Not putting down rap or techno, but hand a ti-85 and pro tools to a thousand and you will get hundreds that sound just alike. Hand over a 59 Les Paul and a Marshal JCM and nobody sounds like Jimmy Page. You really can't argue that, IMO. Its not the sound it makes, its the sound you make with it.
You wanT unf! unf! unf!...booooooooooooop,POP, dada, dada, dada,..dattt BOOOM!!! all night? Thats great, give me some mdma and i have an 85% chance of hitting that on the first or second try. Its not the same as nailin down 46x2 or YYZ
again IMO
Do I have the talent of others here ? hell no. But can I walk into a club and work an Imac and drum machine and have you all shaking buttocks? yep. done that. Can I walk on stage and play "wish you were here" without messing up the solo..doubtful. Artist and Musician..there is a difference.
You are talking Puff Daddy's vs. Page's "Kashmir" are we really gonna argue who is the musician here??

MIKE PATTON! Now THERE is a musician! (Also in 1,000,000 bands, one of which is a hip hop group, Lovage, with one of my favorite producers, The Automator, and a killer vocalist, Cat Power)

Just to throw things back toward the .NET Musicians theme... my new three-piece is getting ready to put together an original album.
This is my sitting in the kitchen trying to remember how to play the guitar demo version of one of the tunes. (I play bass, but the guitar is for songwriting. That tries to explain the suck.)
Written in my recurrent 'Hey, people suck' phase.
