Today I saw a two articals on MSN about caring for the elderly.

http://now.msn.com/taro-aso-tells-japanese-elderly-to-hurry-up-and-die

Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso has some blunt advice for elderly people he sees as strains on the country's resources: to "hurry up and die."

http://now.msn.com/elderly-in-germany-sent-out-of-country

Germans are 'exporting' their grandmas to save money

We all know that the US is already starting to tighten a noose around retirees with medicare deductions and wanting to extend Social Security retirement age as well as eliminating pensions etc.

My question is how long before we start doing something simular or even worse, creating dieing centers to kill people that the social structure decides as irrelevant or of no longer useful rather then help take care of them.

As Seahawks fans we are a copy cat league as everyone say with the NFL, if other countries start a trend how long before we jump in with both feet.

The other issue is how early would they do it?

If your wealthy you could get bypassed entirely, poverty stricken maybe as soon as you become sick the first time with something that requires extended stays at clinics or a hospital. Why treat someone with cancer when it's easier to put them away and save money as an example, doesn't matter if they are 28.

Kind of goes along with the whole "what is the value of life" thread.

That's only a problem if you plan on getting old. Which I don't.

People under the age of 35 are more likely to be in poverty than the elderly.

People under the age of 35 have seen a decrease in net worth over the past few decades while the elderly have seen increases.

People under the age of 35 own less homes than they did in 1984. Elderly people own more since then. The home ownership rate is twice that of young people.

I think we can make some arguments that the elderly are doing quite well through their own means and don't require government programs. Of course, it's all about securing the voting demographic.

Yeah, but the 'young' can live very nicely on $300 a week. Right?

This thread is reaching a bit. Some politician in Japan makes a stupid comment and it morphs into a 'trend.' No one's said it yet, but the smell of euthanasia permeates this room.

That's why us Seniors need to keep our firearms! Fuck you youngins!! :les:

Already happening.

By voting in the "Affordable care act" (should be called "For-profit Health Insurance subsidy act"), a panel of 'Doctors' reviews ways for the system (primarily Medicare) to reduce costs.

For the vast majority of people, 99% of their lifetime health care costs come in the last 1% of life.

Where do you think the potential cost savings is, according to the bean counters who will actually run this?

Eh, sometimes a life is worth sacrificing. It's just a health decision, after all, right?

Will never happen. The pharmaceutical companies won't allow it.

"What? You want to get rid of 95% of our customer base? Who will we sell boner pills to then?!"

No, won't work. When Pehawk is talking about 'boner pills', he is talking about the trail of M & Ms he lays to attract kids

Japan was just a few years ago the leading economy in the world, had knocked us off for a period of time, Germany was toted as being one of the most stable. Both countries world leaders in products being exported for either cost or value.

Pharm companies will get theirs no matter what, they just raise costs again, or convince the public they need something else or like the report yesterday from somehwere said that there has been a 24 percent increase in ADHD, well that is a push for more drugs to control this behavior issue the are dumping on us. I think it's complete bullshit. Kids are not meant to sit still all day long.

Besides with Death Centers who do you think will start them? Sell them medicine and medical service and insurance and then when all used up kill them and process their bodies for something else? Pink Slime for Hamburger maybe?
