Sure, I'd guess polygraphs can be beaten, but you're discussing things that are .001% odds. Lie detectors - at least those federally administered (can't vouch for any others) - are pretty accurate. And they're not meant to determine absolute guilt or such.
i've had a lie detector test when i was in the AF, part of our training... the piece of crap said i was lying when i was being asked what high school did i attend, and what was the name of my first pet... they are not completely accurate, which is why they're not admissable in court.
