Horse is not that way. Horse has a very distinctive (and IMO tasty) flavor. Consistency of beef, a bit of beefy taste, but with tones of hay and oats and clean stables. If you like a more pungent, earthy taste in your meat, you'll probably love horse. Ostrich is also good - similar to beef, but with a blander flavor. I sort of disagree on alligator, though. I think it's unique enough not to taste like chicken at all. Good, though.
Haven't had yak, but have had buffalo, elk, deer, dog, octopus, hammerhead shark, eel, plus a bunch I'm probably forgetting. All quite delicious in their own way. And as far as sea urchin goes, I didn't think it was bad at all. The one I've heard has questionable taste is sea cucumber. Haven't had the opportunity there yet.

Depends a lot on how it's prepared, IMO, Sailor. (Alligator.) Deep-fried breaded bites are definitely pretty similar, IMO.

Could be. Most of the gator I've eaten has been sausage. Spicy, and pungently delicious.

Ah, I've never had gator sausage. I'll have to find a way to try it sometime. Next time I'm in Florida, probably.

It taste like the bottom of the ocean if the bottom of the ocean was made entirely of shit. Which it probably mostly is but you still have to say it to get the point across.

I get that we shouldn't serve "bad" meat, but to arbitrarily say you can't because the health department didn't like it...wow. Quote: “Although the meat was processed at a slaughterhouse (Bellevue) that is permitted by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture to prepare and commercially distribute meat obtained from approved farms, deer are not an approved meat source to be distributed commercially,” the department said on its Facebook page. “And because hunters brought the deer to the slaughterhouse, there is no way to verify how the deer were killed, prepared or stored.” Why the fuck isn't venison approved for commercial distribution?

It's rare and expensive because not many deer are farmed, but it's legal. The issue is with housing them. They need so bloody much room, and they can jump very tall fences, that it becomes an issue of cost over product. But yea, that's one of the dumbest examples of bureaucratic idiocy I've seen in a long, long time. Can't even make the argument that what they're giving them as an alternative is even remotely as healthful. But hey, hot dogs and soda, everyone!

I know it would be a nightmare to actually keep a deer farm, I was just in awe that they said that in the article. I have seen venison for sale (rarely) so I know it can be distributed. I just don't get why they would think that a charity organization would give tainted meat to the homeless. Common sense, still not common

Hmm, and now the Dairy people are trying to get the FDA to change the definition of "milk" to include sucralose and aspartame so they could add it in there and not have to put it on the label. Those are both mildly addictive btw, which is probably why they want to have them in there. My first thought on finding this out was: what other words have they redefined to put something I don't know about in it? Quote: But now the situation is getting even more insane than you could have imagined: the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) have filed a petition with the FDA asking the FDA to alter the definition of "milk" to secretly include chemical sweeteners such as aspartame and sucralose. Importantly, none of these additives need to be listed on the label. They will simply be swept under the definition of "milk," so that when a company lists "milk" on the label, it automatically includes aspartame or sucralose. And if you're trying to avoid aspartame, you'll have no way of doing so because it won't be listed on the label. This isn't only for milk, either: It's also for yogurt, cream, sour cream, eggnog, whipping cream and a total of 17 products, all of which are listed in the petition at FDA.gov.
