How to turn this link: http://www.netnation12.com/index.php

Into This Link.

First, copy and paste your link - i.e. -
Code:
http://www.netnation12.com/index.php

Next, highlight your link with your mouse then click the "URL" button above the text box.
Your link should now look like this:
Code:
[url]http://www.netnation12.com/index.php[/url]

In the first part of the link, change the close bracket "]" to an equal sign "=". Also, just before the "[/url]" at the end (and after your link), insert an end bracket "]".
Your link should now look like this:
Code:
[url=http://www.netnation12.com/index.php][/url]

Now, before the "[/url]" at the end of the link, enter the text you want as a description of the link - here it will be "This Link".
Your link should now look like this:
Code:
[url=http://www.netnation12.com/index.php]This Link[/url]

Lastly, highlight the "This Link" part of the link and click the Bold button above the text box. Use this same process to select a color at the right.

Thus the link becomes:
Code:
[url=http://www.netnation12.com/index.php][b][color=#FFFF00]This Link[/color][/b][/url]

I hope this helps someone. Got a better way? Please let me know!

Hey Steve, might I suggest simply changing the link color to something that shows up better on our background. Other than that, nice job!

Ditto. I tried the color thing a couple times, and it didn't work for me -- but perhaps I was doing it wrong. I'll try it again:

Um...

OK, it worked! Same thing, without the bold:

Um...

We have linkage! (insert snoopy dance here) (Hey, we need a snoopy dance emoticon!)

I think my way is easier. I just put what I want to say like "check this out" then I highlight that and click the URL shortcut. Then I copy the url, then I just insert an = in the [url=] then I paste in the url and voila! check this out

Is there any plans to ever change it so that a link will always open in a new tab? It's a really minor inconvenience but most other forums do it, maybe I'm missing something in the user control panel.

There is no plan to do this. Right clicking allows you the option to open links in a new tab as it is coded right now. If it were hard coded to open all links in a new tab, there is no way to make an option for those that don't want that behavior.

for youtubes and images I like to paste the source link on its own line completely (like so):

http://www.sweetpicture.jpg

With it being the only text on the line, I can TRIPLE click (thus selecting the entire line) and clicking the youtube/image button at the top and it formats it correctly. I find it very efficient.
