Seahawksdraftblog.com released it's new mock draft today with the Seahawks selecting margus hunt, defensive end from SMU. If you don't know anything about margus hunt, he is a physical freak who could fall to the Seahawks due to his lack of football experience. He is from Estonia and trained to become a Olympian in discuss and shot put, he came to SMU on a track and field scholarship just before SMU dropped thier track and field program, he then earned a football scholarship. The guy is 6'8 280 lbs and can run a 4.6 forty, he has a 36" vertical, can bench 225 45 times, can power clean 385 lbs. the guy was named the number one physical freak in all of college football by CBS sports. He has the speed to play Leo, and the size to play at the 3 or 5 technique. He seems like someone pete Carroll and John Schneider would draft, I hope we draft him.

That site is run by theENGLISHseahawk, and is discussed in his mock draft thread. He's a great draft resource around here.

I appreciate his physical prowess. And appreciate how Hunt having such physical features make him a logical target, but, he's NOT a football player. Maybe he comes to the NFL and grows a mule? Maybe...

Don't get lost in his numbers and size. For his size and the competition he played at SMU. He really struggles at setting the edge on outside running plays, and can get absolutely destroyed in the power run game.
You can attribute that to bad footwork, bad hands, not understanding leverage or lack of strengh, but the guy is a liablility in the run game. And with his size and the level he played at he shouldn't be.

Ive been railing on about this guy "Have you guys checked out margus Hunt. He is raw but most of the guys we are showing around he are beating one guy or RB blocks. Margus is all over the line DT DE NT and beating triple teams, thats not a joke. Yeah he is raw as hell and played lesser teams but if he can beet a lesser triple team, I would bet he can beet a Tackle. Just screams PC JS to me. As a Leo or DT Not sure, as an absolute terror to block, yes!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgNUN-Sqj_Yedited so it works

You see a beast - I see a guy loafing around shying away from contact. He has no desire to tackle anyone unless he can do it gently.

I don't know if I'd go that far, but I do agree with sainthawk that he's going to be a liability. He doesn't seem to recognize screens and he lets himself get taken out of the play. A lot of the timidity I'm seeing looks like he's trying to play catch up with the game when it's not an obvious pass, and he does let himself get stood up pretty frequently. So I don't think it's fear of contact, but fear of failure. That said, I'd love him in the 4th round. Not in the first.

Here he is against Texas A&M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGBBKibXTrsAgainst 1st round talent and they still double him up. SaintHawk29 I don’t see how "He really struggles at setting the edge on outside running plays, and can get absolutely destroyed in the power run game." Constantly doubled and still doesn't lose much ground and even still gets pressure and penetration with regularity, he most certainly could use some sealing skills and gap integrity. Let me rephrase that yes he gets beat due to being undisiplined, No he doesn't get owned in power running. PeHawk read where I saw "Raw as Hell". I also don't see beast in there either. He definitely has a lot to learn about leverage his footwork could use coaching, like I said he is raw. I will however point out he only has been playing football for 3 years. I do agree that he is not a tenacious pursuer and doesn't deliver devastating hits. Not saying spend a 1st rounder on him in fact I've stated there are only 4 players worth 1st round think 2009 draft SeaHawk80 wrote: in my opinion there are a couple guys worth the 1st pick in this draft. Only Star would have been top 10 last year. Luke Joeckle Star Lotulelei Chance Warmack Taylor Lewan Jarvis Jones
This class is so weak IMO we may see a guard go in the top 5. Now JS/PC will most likely find 5 1st round draft choices in this draft and we will all scratch our heads again going how in the hell do they find these guys. Barkley and Smith might be the only QB's to go in the first round and I would not take smith as a QB, I wouldn't have taken Cam Newton either and that seems to be a fairly good pick so shows what I know. We might not see a RB go until late in the second. I think this is a D heavy draft with tons of value and depth but nearly no superstars kinda like 2009, where of the 12 Probowlers in the draft 5 are lineman, 2 are LB, 3 WR, 1 RB, 1 SS I would say maybe 2 remotely have a shot at the hall. Of the first 3 rounds 17 are contributing starters. anyway I think this will be a draft like that. The NFL will build Hype and a lot of teams will end up with Arron Curry. So since I dont think there are many worth it he is a good as any unless hopkins is available. I am just saying there is a ton to work with there and his physical attributes make him worth a pick to me. I'll say it again if he can consistently beat double and triple teams he can beat a tackle or a guard. edited cause grammer/spelling monitors make me wanna punch babies

If there are others around to make the tackle he just watches or if the RB is taking off to the other side he starts to slow down. BUT if he breaks the line on a passing play he's a MFing terror.

I see him right now as a pass rush specialist. Can he develop? Absolutely. Does he has the size and atheletic ability to be a 3 down DE. Yes. One on One on the edge or inside against a guard he is a terror when he can pin his ears back and rush.
However, when tasked to stop the run, far to often is he pushed out of the play. He tends to play too high. At 6'8" he has good bend and can play with leverage when rushing the passer. He struggles with that bend when asked to anchor and stop the run.
IMO that is caused by one of two things. One, the lack of football knowledge causes him to play slow, and play high. Two, and most concerning it could be lack of effort. He has a tremendous motor when rushing however, i struggle to see the same effort when the play goes away, or the ball is run.
