Would this be a good stop-gap pickup to replace Hill?

Boley will be 31 and had a pretty productive year (84 tackles, 3 INTs) despite being benched (many Giants fans have no idea why other than the fact he was dinged up). He was arguably the Giants' best LB in 2011.

He is fast and athletic.

I wouldn't mind a look and then let him compete with a rookie in camp.

Interesting ...... but aren't we already overloaded with fast athletic and younger outside coverage linebackers (specialists)?

Such as ...... Mike Morgan ...... Malcolm Smith ..... prospect >> Korey Toomer

Yes we are. I was just thinking that this guy might be a good veteran guy to specifically replace Hill just in case none of the younger guys works out. I don't really know much about Boley, just that his numbers look nice and the Giants fans seem kind of confused about him being released.

I appreciate the post. I would only add that ........ the Giants had big problems with tackling. It drove their head coach crazy.

The uncommon attribute that stands out in my memory is the ability of Leroy Hill to tackle and stop a ball carrier in his tracks. Most ball carriers are able to fall forward for an additional yardage after contact. Leroy has the ability to stop a ball carrier cold in his tracks and deny that additional yardage. That skill has become increasingly difficult to find or develop. College football began restricting practices years ago. And as of last year, the NFL began restricting contact practices.

So ...... I'm of the opinion that there are plenty of cover linebackers to pick from. But replacing a Leroy Hill is becoming increasingly more difficult.
