His uncle told cnn etc that Damar had been resuscitated twice. Then his friend and marketing rep came on nfln saying that actually he’d only been resuscitated once. Meanwhile, the hospital is saying anything That’s said is said by the family.

If I’m them, I hire a crisis pr manager who talks to the family and the doctors and crafts a consensus on what will be said to the public.
Makes sense but in the light of the situation it’s easy to understand how those details might be overlooked.

Edit
Hell the reality is, that family doesn’t owe us anything.
We just want to know. It’s a natural concern and curiosity but they don’t owe us an explanation.

This is 100% true. Everyone, even a public figure deserves as much or as little privacy as the family wants. The only issue I'm seeing that somewhat negates this a little bit, is that we have family members making conflicting statements. This does more harm than saying nothing at all. If they want to speak, they should at least announce that one person alone is speaking for the family so we don't have these conflicting reports. Just my 2 cents.

Right, but if They ONLY wanted privacy, they would only send the uncle and friend out there to say we are not answering questions. Clearly they want to communicate. Clearly, there is also incentive From the family standpoint.

The family has attempted to clear the air about the number of times Hamlin was necessitated:

7:05 AM PT -- Damar Hamlin's family is clarifying a previous medical update provided by the Bills safety's uncle ... saying there was a bit of miscommunication regarding what happened after he collapsed on "Monday Night Football."

Hamlin's uncle told CNN on Tuesday that his nephew had to be resuscitated twice -- at the stadium and upon arrival at the hospital.

But, on Wednesday morning, a rep for the family cleared the air ... saying he was resuscitated once at Paycor Stadium after going into cardiac arrest.

There's understandable confusion. I'm sure that with all the privacy laws, the hospital isn't going to come out and give specific information like the number of times he went into cardiac arrest, so the press is relying on family members for information.

Hit has not been mentioned, but if he was hit that hard, collapsed lung? Broken sternum, bleeding in the lungs all could be secondary to the Cardiac Arrest but complicate the recovery with fluid in lungs and needing to drain them as well as not breathing deeply and possibility of Pneumonia. Was just thinking secondary stuff plus a possible concussion.

This is why the family should hire a pr coordinator. Someone who everything filters out from.

Why? What is the misleading or not completely accurate information hurting? Our need to know?

Besides, it's not going to stop the press from finding individual family members, friends, teammates, etc., and pressing them for information. They're like a pack of buzzards.

One of the problems here is the HIPPA laws that prevent doctors and other medical providers from disclosing information without the consent of the patient. Otherwise, the doctors themselves could hold a news conference.

The family and friend said different things to the media. And they’re the only ones the media can talk to. Theres a need for coordination.

Actually, they have a coordinator. Jordan Rooney is Hamlin's marketing director and has been acting as the family spokesperson:

Doctors told family members Wednesday morning that Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin's condition is moving in a "positive direction" after collapsing two days ago from cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Hamlin family spokesperson Jordon Rooney.

He can’t function in a pr crisis management situation tho. He is intrinsically too close. It’d be as if Russell’s childhood friend managing Russ’ 3Brand was thrust into the magnitude of the situation.

Apparently, Rooney has been given authorization by the family to speak for them about Hamlin's condition, otherwise they wouldn't be referring to him as the "family spokesperson". Given that title, one would have to assume that he's in direct contact with the family and is speaking to the press on their behalf. It's the same thing that you're talking about, ie hiring a pr person.

What I’m saying is that he’s unsuited to the role. They don’t need an actual close family friend as much as they need a coordinator who Either is The one doing press conferences or the one who coordinates everyone speaking To the press.

Why, dude? They need a person whose not in their circle for the same reason doctors don’t typically treat their own family members. They can Save a hella lot pain by having one point person.

I've seen that Rooney guy speak twice now & he was just fine so stop acting like he was some babbling idiot who couldn't string 2 coherent thoughts together.

Other than that, yeah, let's discuss it for another 3 pages like anything we say about it will happen.

Hes fine as far as providing support. But professional pr is a real thing. Before this, Rooney was a friend who helped sell a micro clothing brand Just as Russ’ kindergarten friend does.

Expecting them to step in the moment is unrealistic.

The problem with this whole "did he have one or two resuscitations," and the mixed communication on the subject, is that these aren't necessarily discreet, or necessarily definable events. What constitutes resuscitation to one person, does not constitute resuscitation to another.

For example, if you stripped out my job title, and some of the context, and just described what I do on a daily basis, most docs would identify it as either a long, continuous resuscitation, or as multiple resuscitation events. Most of my patients go home at the end of the day.

Even if he required a brief, second round of CPR at the hospital, it's not particularly meaningful. There are a lot of reasons that CPR gets performed, sometimes even when it isn't actually necessary.

If there isn't any positive news today, I will start to worry about something long-term. For now, I don't think we can read much into the tea leaves. All we can do is speculate, wait, and respect the family's wish for privacy.

You're projecting your own personal opinion as to who you would prefer to handle these matters if you were in this situation onto Hamlin's family. How do you know what they need and don't need? How do you know what kind of and how much 'pain' the family is experiencing and could be avoided? They may be perfectly fine with someone within their inner circle communicating with the press and others.

If it were me, I would want someone from within my inner circle to handle public relations. They're more likely to understand what I wouldn't mind being discussed and what I'd rather remain private.

I see no problem with the spokesman the family has chosen to represent them or how the flow of information is being handled. As much publicity as this case has attracted, misinformation and uninformed speculation is impossible to avoid.
