Yep. Feeling a hell of a lot better after hearing the actual numbers. Won't be the last time that the original report isn't even close to accurate.
And while I'm not 100 percent sold on him, hopefully he gets ALL those incentives. That = winning and success for the Hawks.

With the updated numbers they sound exactly like what I was asking for so I would go from being happy to being ecstatic. $25 million + incentives is exactly the kind of deal that gives us room to get this team to the level it needs to be to compete on defense.

Looks like a reasonable deal with the new numbers coming out. Three-year contract, but could mean two-year deal with an out if necessary.

And it doesn't mean they won't draft a QB early, but I doubt it. From the FO perspective, Pete and John has two years left on their contracts. Do they think a rookie QB, no matter what potential they have, can win a SB within two years?

Their best bet is Geno right now, a proven starting caliber QB. It's best to build around him and fill the rest of the roster while they can. No guarantee Pete and Johns contract will be extended. The team could be sold in 2025 or 2026 and new owners may want to start over. The current FO doesn't really have incentive to draft a QB early unless they are in it for the long haul. I think they want to win as soon as possible.
If anything, bringing in a QB dripping with elite potential gives Pete and John a longer leash.

$25 mil with an out clause is spot on. I feel much better about this now. They wouldn't have put the out clause in there if they weren't planning on drafting a qb. Now it's just a matter of whom, and with what pick. Can't wait for April!

he's done nothing and looked mediocre doing it. 1 season of college football with mid stats at best and the inability to read a defense make this guy a giant reach.
If he had stayed in for another year or two, his stats would have improved. Probably a lot. And if that were the case, he would likely be a consensus #1 pick in another year or two. Conjecture, sure. But logical.

Of course he's a reach, but the skillset and arm talent is too big to pass up for QB needy teams.

Will Richardson need to sit and learn for a while? Absolutely, that's the best case scenario for him, but to say day 3 is just flat out naive.

So, hmm, it's your contention that it's Geno's fault that the Defense SH*T THE BED???
Look Fatty, even the great Russell Wilson in his 2nd trip to the Super Bowl couldn't COVER for the LOB giving up a 10 point cushion to Tommy & the Pats, am I right???, you KNOW I am.
LOL, I said absolutely nothing resembling that. You don’t actually read and understand, you just make up what someone is saying so you can do your keyboard Tourettes. My actual point is we got beat by a better team and the only half in which we were competitive was largely because of Geno. I thought I put it plain enough but you seem impossible to underestimate.

I think it was Gregg Rothenthal who once said about these contracts, the only number that really matters is how much is guaranteed money to tell you how much the team is going to be hamstrung by the deal

This is such a Great Football Story. Never giving up. Staying true to the vision. Staying true to the goal. Maybe someday someone will make a movie about Geno's Story. So very very Seahawkie ..............

TRUE GRIT

We have all speculated the living crap about whether or not Geno can continue his upward trend, but let's be honest with ourselves, he has the confidence of THE ONES who are REALLY IN THE KNOW= His Teammates.
Everyone (including myself) has been harping on all the Holes that need filling, and I've come to the conclusion that John Schneider (not myself or any other doubters) would certainly NOT have agreed to any deal that would have hamstrung the Seahawks ability to fill those holes.
Looking at all the particulars on this signing, this is a damned reasonable AND FAIR contract that BOTH Geno and the Seahawks have agreed to.

There was literally no evidence last year that Geno's high level of play can't be sustained going forward. His work ethic, practice and study habits and belief in his abilities all = no worries about regression.

Now does he need a strong run game, good O-line and a defense that doesn't put him down 14 points by the 2nd quarter?

Sure, that's why his 2nd half stats dropped off a little. He's not a QB that can carry a team, but outside of 2-3 QB's, that criticism applies to literally every other QB in the league.

I was only hesitant on Geno if we overpaid, and it's clear we didn't. Real money is 25M, low guarantee with lots of incentives and a team out after the 1st year. This is the perfect scenario for us.

The last month or so, I've read a lot of varying and well thought out opinions on Geno's future with the Seahawks.

Regardless of where you stand on his signing, be it elated, disappointed, or somewhere in the middle, one thing is objectively certain.

$25 million/per for a Pro Bowl QB in 2023 is dirt ass cheap.
