It looks like more of a framework than a system to me.
In the end what brought Pete and Holmgren down was essentially the same thing. The hubris of their system not having to adapt to the players or the changing nfl.
The difference between saying "this is what we are going to do come hell...
Because it will be deserved. Anybody who thinks what we have been the for the last (almost) decade is anything other than a has been should probably exercise a little introspection.
More likely they put more value in the draft capital than their perceived drop at back up QB. Also, being a Pete disciple, Quinn probably thought he could pull Russel Wilson out of his ass in the 5th round to replace Howell.
Maybe he would have given up a third but tried to low ball first and wasn't willing to beat Seattle's offer when Washington came back saying "Seattle is offering this, will you give us a second?"
Really? From the article:
"Maybe Nwosu was not intentionally trying to say Carroll and his coaching staff were not committed to being successful and were not the right people to help Seattle be extremely successful, but he pointed out that the new coaches were which seems to infer the reverse...
Hurt was just one choice in a long line of bad choices that, among other things, contributed to Pete losing his job. You eliminate half of those things and there is probably still 4 times what was needed to justify moving on.
The only thing that has surprised me (pleasantly) is them taking their medicine this year and not kicking the dead cap to next year with post-June 1st releases. This is reassuring that they have a solid multi-year plan in place and not the typical short sighted year to year sellout we have seen...
I think he is talking about doing those things next year, and assuming there are no other things with those players that happen this year (like restructure for Tyler.) In that case, what he is saying is accurate but closer to 30 million in dead money.
They pick up over $6 million in cap space on Jamal pre June 1, then this gives them $10 million more to work with next year when MM and JS have a year under their belts to see how the team performs under the new administration and what improvements make the most sense to throw money at.
