Unless he's 100%, he shouldn't be playing tonight anyway, with the result not being especially important. Get him more rest for a potential winner-take-all game against the Rams. If the Rams beat the Cards, shut him down entirely and then week 18 should feature Kenny McIntosh taking handoffs from Sam Howell.

I am not really sure what to think of Walker at this point. You know the old saying "the best ability is availability". I love the fact that he is one of those players that whenever he touches the ball he could break something off but he just seems to always have these nagging injuries. I have him on 2 of my FFB teams and have a signed jersey but damn he is starting to remind me of Penny...why can't we ever seem to have a back that stays healthy.

This is why the RB value has plummeted because the job is too high risk to pay. I mean, if you have time, take a gander at this list and jot down all the RB's you see either Out or on the IR. https://www.espn.com/nfl/injuries

I don't know what or how to think about today's professional sports. In football I guess you can attribute a lot of the injuries and missed time to players being bigger and faster due to the steroids and stuff being pumped into all of the processed foods and such, but its weird because bruising RB's of the past (in a time when opposing players tried to kill you and were allowed to do so) with more carries always seemed to be available. Even backs like Lynch seemed to play almost all of the time with very limited periods of absence. Then you have the NBA where players sit out for rest,,,,,what? Ask players like Magic, Bird, or Jordan if they ever would have sat out because of rest. It's all just strange to me.

They're getting hit by players who are bigger, stronger, and faster now. That doesn't help. Most of it has probably come down to how the game has changed though. RBs are expected to be more dynamic now. You see very few of the giant bruiser type backs who were run repeatedly up the gut 400 times a year and finished with a 4.0ypc average. Backs now are expected to catch and juke, and be more explosive in the open field. That opens them up to a lot of different injuries.

Especially when your o-linemen are turn styles and you are getting hit by 300+ pound dudes constantly because of that.

The entire sport has just changed and money has a lot to do with it. RBs take a ton of punishment. The players today are content with getting paid to play a lesser role, and maintain their health so that they can be around to spend the money they make. That, and the position is devalued at the pro level and in college.

They play a position where most of the all time records will never be broken again. What is there to aspire to? This NFL will never see a RB come close to E Smith, W Payton, or B Sanders's numbers. Ever. The elite runners in the game today probably wont even crack 10k yards.

On the other hand, 'greatness' at the qb, te, and wr positions is as attainable as ever. Records are there to be broken. Its become high risk position without a high profile. Its a 'business' position.

Might not seem like a big thing, but to come into the league during a time when the game itself has labeled the position you play as a compliment to an offense and no longer the feature spot it needs to be to really be a star... who can blame them?

Honestly - this is just getting old at this point. They should just start notifying us when he CAN play.
As has been noted in another thread, this game isn't all that important to our playoff chances, and Charbonnet has been playing very well in his absence, so we're not losing a whole lot. We might as well sit him.

We need him. But........this is Grubb. He'll call 45 pass plays and 12 runs. :cautious:
EXACTLY.

And to add insult to injury - 10 of those runs will be pointlessly up the gut. He'll throw us 2 shovel passes to a RB just to remind us that he knows how to play 'the outside game'!

Walker... should take the off season to read holes and learn to stop stuttering and bouncing out when theres space infront of him. say what ya'll want but im fine with him walking at the end of his contract. Theres RBs on the roster that will fill his spot easily enough.. and have.

I think he's a hell of a lot better than you're giving him credit for, imo.
That being said, injury prone is a part of what we have with him. If they move on, so be it. But it certainly isn't because of his talent. And he's a better back than Charbs.

That's unfortunate to see him go on IR. He's such a phenomenal talent and a real difference maker when he's healthy. That play he got rolled up on was pretty ugly, and not really an "injury prone player" kind of injury. Not necessarily saying he's not injury prone, but I wouldn't say this injury is evidence of it. It was the kind of thing that could happen to anyone.

Hope Charbs is good to go then. He's pretty mid, but his durability is a huge asset. I feel like if Charbs was the regular starter for a full season, he'd have like three games where he gets 20-25 carries for 100-110 yards, and the most of the rest of his games would be the 15 carries for 40 yards variety.

McIntosh needs to be getting a lot of carries tonight.
