Today, the Mariners opted to release Haniger and eat his current contact. $15.5M

He hit for a .208 average in 2024 with 12HRs.

Loved him in his first two seasons and had it not been for the injuries (including the ruptured testicle) perhaps he would have sustained his all-star caliber play.

I'm glad we paid him. I'm also glad we are letting him go. But I was unhappy we picked him up for THAT much money last year, before the '24 season.

I hate the wasted money, but you cannot have both - A wasted spot also.
It was time because the body was not holding up, some age faster than others
in every sport.
This opens the door for somebody more deserving of a spot.

Remember that the Haniger trade was a money-saving move. We got rid of the $73 million left on Robbie Ray's contract in exchange for Mitch. Our pitching staff did not miss Ray at all, and Ray ended up pitching in a total of 7 games last year. So even with eating $15 million, we still end up ahead in the deal.

Agreed but you do know they replaced the head coach and the entire hitting coaching staff right lol
No, the only time I think about the Mariners is negatively. They had one of the greatest teams in history, didn't bring in a bat or two to win a World Series. The Seattle team will NEVER win a championship. I'd put down $1,000 in Vegas if I could bet that they don't win in the next 10 years.

And I'm guessing that Vegas would handicap that at something close to -$1000... so, if you were correct, you'd put down $1000 to win $100.

Not exactly something to bet the house on. lol... but I get your point... and agree!

Just think how low the Mariners are, it has been 30 years since Edgar drove in Griffey to win the most exciting game in their history. If they don't win by 2035, which is a safe bet, it will be 40 years. A Hall of Fame coach, the best Outfielder of his generation, Randy Johnson a fireballer with years left in his arm. Best DH in history, solid team... solid and up and coming team. We were screwed over by management. All Lou wanted was 1 or 2 bats to protect the lineup at the deadline. I tipped out after that, and so did Lou, Griffey and Johnson.

This is the sad state of the worst franchise in history. The farm club for the best teams. We draft em, showcase them as stars, and they move on. F the Mariners franchise.
