Absolutely deserving of being in the MVP discussion right now. The OL is only slightly better than the worst OL in the NFL (Patriots) and he continues to show the world how you adjust/manipulate the pocket to create new throwing lanes when protection breaks down. Often times, immediately. He was ripping apart a very solid defense last night.

Very happy for him personally to see his career turnaround, crazy how much he has grown since the Jets years. JS needs to get him his payday.

Obviously a miscalculation on Geno leading in completion percentage since Goff went 18-for-18.
Damn inaccurate computers. Never shoulda started using them over those proven 1970's TI calculators. :geek:

Geno is outperforming Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes in some critical metrics. Who knows if it's gonna last, but through the first four games, he's the best QB in the league in my opinion, and I don't hand out praise like that lightly.

Remember when Felix Hernandez won the Cy Young award for best pitcher in MLB, but the Mariners went 61 - 101? Apparently, it's a team game as far as wins go. Why the hell does losing a single game (after winning the first 3, and due to defective defense) mean that Geno's league-leading passing stats are meaningless? WTF is wrong with some of you guys?

Who said his stats are meaningless? I've already said that he's legit and I've changed my tune on him. I said that stats don't mean crap if you don't win. It has always been that way. However, I also said that him and the offense were very impressive. That loss is certainly not on the offense.

Saying he's the best the league is quite a stretch though. Just my opinion.

This thread title is incorrect. Jayden Daniels leads the league in completion percentage at 82.1%. Geno is at 72.3%.

In regards to who the best is right now, I'd have Purdy and Darnold as the top 2, but Geno is among a small handful I'd have in consideration at #3. Excellent season for sure.

Geno is doing more than both of them with a much worse Oline

This. And that's been the case for 2 years AND for those years, we didnt have much of a rushing attack.

Not even gonna mention his OC during that span...

But yeah.

Now you see a bigger picture of what some were seeing in the way he executed plays even since his short stint when Russ went down. Go back and watch the game he had against the Jags in 2021. He was something like 14 for 14 or 15 for 15 to start and was just throwing darts everywhere. Some folks discredited the performance because it was against the Jags. But the opponent didnt matter as much as what Geno was doing and HOW he was doing it. He started the following year hot as well, but by midseason, with no o line, a stumbling run game and an OC who had been figured out, his game slumped. In 2023 he showed all of the same great qualities he had prior, but was again hamstrung by incoherent gameplans and poor in-game, situational decision making by Shane.

This year, the OC is light years better, the O line is holding up in large part because of the OC, and the rushing attack is beginning to click.

I expext defenses will begin to adjust to what we are doing, but my sense is that Grubb's playbook is deep, and his ability to adjust in game, solid, so i dont expext the drop-off he experienced during 2022. In fact, i think whereas Shane came into the season a finished product in terms of plans, plays and scheme, Grubb and Geno are just getting started.

We put up 500 plus yards and 38 first downs on a pretty solid D who was sporting the leagues leader in sacks coming into the game.

Barring injury, this season has the shape of one for the ages.

I expect that by the time its all said and done, we get the rook TE integrated, continue to gel the oline, get Lucas back and polish the run game, passing records will fall.

Total yards
Total completions
Total attempts
Completion percentage

And if he starts getting hot with DK, JSN and the TEs in the redzone, the TDs will come too. How many? Maybe not franchise record setting, but they will come.

Nice, but leading the league in passing yards is not such a good thing. We need to work to balance that attack a bit as the season goes on.

I remember back in the day when a QB got to 300 yards it more often than not meant that the team lost that game. Things have changed for sure, and now with a more pass oriented league 300 yards is more often a successful game. I guess I'm saying that if you go in with the intention of throwing a bunch, it works. If you're forced to throw a lot because you're trailing most of the game, not so much.

I certainly don't think that Grubb and Mac went into Sunday's game intending to toss the rock around for 400 yards. The situation kind of forced them to do that. It's nice to know that they can do that when they need to, but going that pass happy is generally not a good thing. Kudos to Geno and Grubb for doing all they could to win the game of course. Tough game, overall, and Detroit earned the W.

Other than Williams, 49ers pass blocking is pretty similar. Minnesotas line is very good though Anybody got PFF grades?
