Really a bummer. Hell of a player when he actually played. I know people LOVED taking shots at the guy, all the time, but come on. He was a great guy who just couldn't stay healthy. It happens.

Doesn't change the fact that he was a good football player. While all the people talking sh** about him are doing it from their couch.

He never struck me as a guy who really loved football, in the sense of I'll do anything to play this game. He even admitted early in his career that he didn't condition himself as he should have, and was blown away by Adrian Peterson's work ethic when they met up on the Hawks some years later.

To be a running back in today's NFL, you have to keep yourself in insane shape to take the beatings coming your way, and keep yourself relevant in a league where RB's are viewed as replaceable, especially as their first contracts draw to a close.

The guy had talent. We all saw that at his best. I'm just not sure he had the necessary desire to be the best he could possibly be. I don't think it was all the injury thing. Just MO.

I hope the guy didn't blow through the little bundle he made from his rookie contract, that he made some sound investments.

I saw he was on a minimum wage contract with no guarantee for the team that was the worst in the NFL in 2023. I wondered whether his heart would be in it.

I never have liked spending high draft picks on running backs, and Penny is a prime example as to why. They're more injury prone than any position on the field, they are only two down players, the game is not centered around them as it once was, et al

How did you feel about Curt Warner, John L Williams, and Shaun Alexander?

He was selected #27. That's not exactly a high draft pick. They gave it a shot, it didn't work out. We've had several good RB's on this team. I didn't like the pick at the time, but meh.

We traded down from 18th. Packers moved up and took Jaire Alexander, one of the league's premier CBs with the pick. Most of the bottom half of that draft was pretty awful though. I think I was calling for Sony Michel at the time, who I believe is also out of the league.

Another over-drafted “surprise” pick that didn’t live up to the spot selected

He had next to no injury history in college but had troubles staying healthy in the NFL. The amount of work it requires to be good enough to be in the NFL is ridiculous. The amount of work required to overcome an injury in the NFL, probably is sometimes unsurmountable. Constantly fighting through the pain can really make it no longer fun and enjoyable. I sure do appreciate the efforts these players put in to play this game.

Yeah, but there were times where he came to camp overweight then experienced muscle pulls. I can't lay all of his injury problems as being due to nothing but bad luck.

Sadly another failed draft pick. Penny was never hurt in college and always hurt as a pro. Coulda, woulda, unfortunately.

Sometimes life dishes you charcoal instead of Gold, Penny is in that boat, great ability and health in college as stated, could simply not get out of the Gate in the NFL and sustain health. Talent there, but if not on the field you become nothing special.

That's our job. The day fans stop trashing the players is the day people stop caring about watching football, which means no more paychecks for the players.
