was rewatching highlights from Week 1 last year and he was really bad. Too slow, didn't have good instincts to where the QB was going with the ball, etc. If he starts slow again Pete's gotta pull him.

One of the worst LB performances I've ever seen. It wasn't an experience thing either. He couldn't even take proper pursuit angles.

Some guys over think to much especially rookies some times you need to slow down n play football! I think that was part of his problem!

No it wasn't. The game going to fast isn't why he couldn't take an angle. He played like he had one foot instead of one hand.

Now, that said, he can cover and did show an instinctual knack for knifing through a line. He either needs to be on the line or 10 yards from it.

When I said slow down I meant his thinking not his actual speed lol! Except u can over think things not diagnosing a play right n take the wrong angle! It's east coast slang!

I knew exactly what you meant.

Griffin could start the next 4 years at LB and still be the worst in the league. He couldn't even tackle. It's not a matter of the game going to fast for him to process.

Ridiculous. Did you watch him on special teams? He was fine pursuing and tackling. Even in preseason he was fine.

It’s not like they put you out there. He played a bad game and wasn’t ready to start. That’s all you can reliably say.

Don’t be so dramatic. sheesh. Sometimes I wonder if people are 10 years old on this forum.

He was not good at specials, at all. What are you talking about?

Don't get me wrong, I love the kid. I would've been fine if he was drafted in round 3. But let's not just make shit up.

He will get another opportunity soon .They will no doubt try him again soon as a situational pass rusher .If he fizzles there then he probably goes back to special teams exclusively . I don't think that Carroll will cut him . If that where to happen it would be headline news in the world of sports ; and nothing but bad press for Carroll and the Hawks . His job is safe for now . IMO

No one cuts through the fluff, the outer layers of a post, sees the bare bones of a situation like x-ray. He sees through it all.

Shaquem Griffin looks far more instinctive
Shaquem Griffin essentially played defensive end in college. He would stand over the tight end and rush the passer in many cases. Asking him to play weakside linebacker last year had him off the line of scrimmage and in space. He struggled and it never seemed like a good fit.

The team now has him playing the strongside linebacker role, which in this defense, stands over the tight end and can be used as a pass rusher. Very similar to what Griffin did in college. As a speed and pursuit player, Griffin looks much more like an NFL linebacker in this position.

He had two nice tackles for loss and is often getting into the backfield. Given how good he was on special teams last year, his chances of making the roster are increasing with his play at linebacker."

MULTIPLE ROLES FOR SHAQUEM GRIFFIN
The coaches want to unleash Griffin more this season as a speed rusher off the edge, less the off-the-ball, read-then-react weakside linebacker he failed at being as a Seahawks rookie last season.

Outside linebacker Mychal Kendricks spent extra time giving Griffin advice in the middle of the defense before a seven-on-seven drill began.

Part of Griffin’s role includes what else he did Thursday: the blocking upback in front of Michael Dickson on the punt team.

There’s some talk out there about whether Griffin is even going to make this team. Expect him to not only make it, but have roles more like the ones in which he starred at the University of Central Florida two seasons ago. Seattle then made him the first one-handed player drafted into the modern NFL.

Carroll and defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. don’t give up on speed like Griffin’s so easily. Especially when he’s a middle-round draft pick under contract at three more years at next-to-nothing cost.

It's been a great story but if he can't cut it he's got to go.

I am proud that it was the Seahawks that gave him his chance.

5th leading tackler on special teams and leading tackler amongst rookies on special teams.

He was fine on special teams.

Sometimes this staff drives me crazy I'm how they move players around in order to produced versatility.

WILL was always a terrible fit for Queem. Like, the worst possible role for him.

Agree, but they needed to find a roster spot and he wasn't going to be on the team as S, so WOLB it was. Now it looks as if he may be moved to being a situational pass rusher @ SOLB while having his speed for use on ST.

Not much if any news from camp on him so we will need to see how he is used on Thursday.

Just like all the outrage over Michael Sam when it became clear that he wasn't any good?

Griffin made it to the NFL. It's a massive accomplishment, but without showing a whole different side of the game, he's on the bubble.
