Niners defend the NFC West 2013 record for Best Division in the NFL

The NFC North's current record is 41-20 after Chicago's loss. The Packers remaining schedule is Vikings and Bears, guaranteeing two more losses for the division (assuming no ties, obviously).

The Lions and Vikings play in week 18, guaranteeing another loss. That leaves Lions-49ers as the only game where a loss for the division isn't guaranteed, and it just so happens that that one loss makes all the difference.

The 2013 NFC West had a winning percentage of .656. Due to the switch to a 17 game schedule since then, the math works out so that a record of 45-23 would just barely beat that number (.662), while a record of 44-24 would just barely miss it (.647).

The 2013 NFC West was better, anyway. The worst team was the 7-9 Rams, who were 1-5 in division and 6-4 outside. The 49ers were 7-3 outside, the Cards 8-2, and the Hawks 9-1. The Seahawks and 49ers were the best teams in the NFL that year, and I think the 49ers would have beaten the Broncos, too. The 2024 Bears are garbage.

These records should always remove divisional games which by definition will always be .500. In a 4 team division the intra-division record will be 12-12, excluding ties. Historically the NFL has had many seasons with 5 teams in a division. That resulted in 20-20 records which prevented high percentage divisional win records.

Great post my dear , though I'm not sure the 9ers are up for it with the way their qb has turned rather suddenly/drastically
Hadn't heard of this till now so thx for the heads up , and yes , in '13 there really wasn't a bad team in the division like the bears
