Athlon Sports Picks Huskies to Win Pac Again

Not sure I agree with this assessment at this moment in time, but I thought it was interesting with most of the other publications picking Oregon. Personally, I would pick Oregon first with so many unknowns surrounding my Husky squad.

Oregon finds itself in an almost identical situation as the Huskies were last season returning most of their starters and a four-year QB. In some publications they are rated #7 as were the Huskies last year. Do they have enough? Depends on whether Herbert and his receivers (especially his receivers) can step up and probably more than that, finally having a defense.

The Huskies high prediction is probably based on a better than expected spring ball with several future stars emerging. The defense looks to be as good as last years, if not better, and could lead the Huskies to their 5th straight year as the Pac's #1 defense. Add to this QB transfer Jacob Eason who was the nation's #1 recruit two years ago but still has a lot to prove.

As noted in the article, scheduling also play a significant role in these predictions.

And, don't forget USC, with all those blue chippers it would not be unlikely to suggest that they cannot emerge from their unexpected downfall.

Utah will also have a strong squad and Stanford is ranked in some polls also.

Correction: perusing the different polls I don't see Oregon ranked as high as they were earlier but this is a fluid situation and these things change as we approach the season.

No one will know for sure until Eason plays a real game. Also a big question about WR and RB. Gaskin is a massive loss while Ahmed only flashed a little last year.

Salvon ran for 608 yds with a 5.8 yds per carry avg. as a backup. He has been groomed to emerge this season after Gaskin left. The coaching staff has been a little secretive about his speed but he is a genuine 4.3 speedster. He is a different type of runner than Gaskin but he is going to be just fine.

I think a lot of this is based on scheduling where the Huskies have home-field advantage in a number of key games. I am actually very surprised that we are getting so much positive attention in the off-season. As I mentioned in another thread it is partially due to really good spring practices, Eason's upside, and the fact that there doesn't look to be any drop off on defense.

This is all speculation though at this point, but there's one thing for sure: IT'S GREAT TO BE A HUSKY!

You tweak the offense to use the speed..Like JB maybe
couldn't make the passes JE can to open up the running game
better for Ahmed..I hope that is one of the factors.

The Stanford vs UCF game should be interesting.
