UW vs Hawaii

I like this game because it tests our new secondary. Hawaii loves to chuck the ball and they are fairly good at it. As for their running game, it is pretty weak, and if our D gives up unexpected yards like they did against Cal you know we have BIG trouble in that area.

Side note: Hawaii has already beat two Pac-12 schools in this young season, a loss to them would be a huge disaster for UW.

We gotta get better, and quick.

I was at the game. UW's DC doesn't seem to have counter-adjustments prepared for the second half in case the opponent makes halftime adjustments (like everybody does). It was pretty obvious that we ran exactly what worked in the first half for the entire third quarter, and got our asses handed to us to the tune of 20 points (thank goodness for failed 2-point attempts). They found every hole that was there the first half. Hopefully the coaching staff noticed this.

They won by over 20 points (hashtag blowout). They didn't make adjustments because they are smart enough not to put things on tape that they don't need to in a comfortable win...

That wasn't a "hashtag blowout" in the third quarter. After 3 consecutive unanswered TDs Hawaii had 50% more time of possession, more passing yards, and almost as many running yards for the game. They went for 2 in an effort to make the score 35-22 so that 2 more TDs would be for the win instead of for the tie. After missing on the 2-point conversion and turning it into a 3-possession game they lost some wind from their sails, but in the third quarter the overall outcome was anything but certain and everyone in the stands knew it. Looking only at the final score is a fairly stupid way of judging the game.

<edit> They were trying to get behind by 16 points when they went for 2, so that 2 TDs and a FG would be a win and not a tie. At that point it was 38-20. Still, that shows just how badly our D was after HI made halftime adjustments.

This is what happens when I'm forced to drink water at a stadium during a game... :irishdrinkers:

Hawaii kept scoring after UDub 3-and-outs accomplished by more dropped passes. Baccellia dropped one that literally hit him on the numbers as he was facing Eason straight on. Also I saw several backup DB's in the game at the time. That perplexed me because it is just the start of the third qtr. Most all the passes were underneath throws though, and it felt like they were just doing what they were told to do.

Doesn't matter, the receivers had a good game overall and they were actually getting separation. It was easy to run also with the size differential over a lower-tier school. Even with dropped passes Eason connected on 72% of his passes. He throws a beautiful ball.

Don't know how much you can glean over a game like this other than it just gets the team ready to play their conference schedule.

Next week will tell how good this team is right now, BYU is a good team.
