WR Curtis Samuel has 467 receiving yards for the Carolina Panthers. Food for thought.

In the 2013 draft, the Seahawks picked RB Christine Michael with the final pick in the 2nd round. To start the third round, the Kansas City Chiefs selected TE Travis Kelce.

Travis Kelce has more than 800 receiving yards this season. Christine Michael is no longer in the NFL.

Food for thought.

This is fun.

Oh man, this is fun.

That same draft the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Eric Fisher with the first overall pick.

Ziggy Ansah was the 5th overall pick in the same draft.

The Seahawks are 8-2.

The Lions are 3-6-1.

Better than the Lions.

The Jaguars drafted punter Bryan Anger 5 picks before Russell Wilson.

For that matter, Brandon Weeden was a 1st rounder and Brock Osweiler a 2nd rounder in that draft.

They also both went before we got Bobby Wagner at #47.

Consider that. Two future HoFers at #47 and #75.

Now doesn't this seem stupid?

What is the point of this thread? The Hawks drafted a player who has been outplayed by a later pick? Sometimes the team has castoff players who succeed to a degree elsewhere?

As we all know the draft is often a crapshoot. Look at all the young QB fails many teams have picked, Seattle is notably included. If we examine the history of our present FO they done well drafting and turning players into good fits for their scheme being run. They are by no stretch perfect though, but no team is. Not sure of the point of this thread. Sure wish the team hadn’t drafted player X or player Y, or had kept another dude? Well OK then, sure thing.

The team has done a good job finding players who fit and the record of the team under this regime is one of the best in all football. I sometimes think success in drafting is more to do with superior coaching than personnel evaluation but then players like Wilson or Sherman, or Carson or Baldwin, or Bennett or Poona appear that show how difficult it is to do personnel evaluation. Getting a player to succeed is often more important than where the player was drafted, yet there are guys that were simply missed out on. Keeping a team together is harder than just drafting good players.

The point of the thread is that the draft is 50% luck; and releasing good productive players and keeping mediocre players just because they were higher draft picks is 100% intentional .

What are you advocating Ray?

Draft them high then cut them if an underrated player starts faster? Loads of complaining when that happens (Jennings).

Seems to me you can't win in that situation, damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The team has been a playoff team in all but 2 seasons with this FO. Many fan bases haven't seen a playoff game in a generation. The team has been to 2 Super Bowls and won one and should have won the other. This season they are underachieving at 8-2 but have won all 5 away games and every conference game but 1 with 3 Ws being each of their Divisional games played so far. Personnel wise there are issues but the team is very young at a few positions. I'd like to see more consistency on D, better tackling, less zone coverage, and fewer mistakes, but they sure are resilient and mentally tough and have proved it with late heroics all year. Sure would like to see a convincing wire to wire W though.

Nobody is willing to give the FO props for the right decisions they have made, b/c it's easy to say well they pooched it here and they pooched it there. Low hanging fruit.

You are nothing but consistent you don't like Coach Carroll or much of the staff, the FO is mostly either lucky or stupid with their personnel decisions and a blind squirrel could find more nuts. Yet the consistent record of achievement is there and though underachieving this season they are in the hunt still for the Division and a playoff bye. I want more as you do but I can't ignore the record and although that is in the past it still bodes well for the future. To me another game like the SF from the D and better ball security and we will both be collectively happier.

Every time a player does well on another team, it is somehow the fault of John and Pete.

Food for Thought :?

On a more related note, Lions OT Dan Skipper is the largest player in the NFL this season at 6'9" and 325lbs. They claimed him off waivers from the Texans earlier this year.

Perhaps you are confusing this with another thread? McKissic has 33 carries and 189 rushing yards in 10 games, while sharing a backfield with ex-Hawk Bo Scarbrough and rookie Ty Johnson. Those are not remarkable numbers, completely setting aside the question of whether McKissic would be getting snaps on a team with a much better RB group (he wouldn't).

I don't get what this thread even has to do with the draft. Didn't we have all three? McKissic would likely be the most useful of the bunch, but hopefully not long-term. Looks like we made the wrong decision in the short-term though. Didn't help McKissic's cause that he had health issues at the wrong time (yeah, I know, Prosise).

Better than Penny or Prosise.

So you would have cut or traded your first round pick who you want to develop into a primary back in both the run and passing game and keep a journeyman pass catching back that's well past his prime?

You can't just throw up stats without the context of things like salary, upside and committed development.

Keeping McKissic wouldn't have had to mean getting rid of Penny. They played largely different roles anyway.

Then take Penny out of this equation, and just compare Prosise to McKissic.

Which is dumb, McKissic getting one series a game because he's behind both Penny and Carson for reps isn't even an interesting conversation.

Good for McKissic for getting a job on a crap team that's had major RB issues and is going nowhere. If he was still here he'd have WAY less reps and carries.

Does this thread show that the FO have a decent eye for talent? Is it not a good thing that your cast offs do well as the players on your squad should be even better?

Loads of players do better when they move on. Of the running backs that have left the only one I'm personally disappointed at losing is Scarborough and even then it's a mild case of what have been that might turn out misplaced.

Andrew Luck was the overall #1 pick in the 2012 draft. Russell Wilson was the 76th pick in same draft. Luck is retired. Wilson is the leading MVP candidate.

Food for thought.

He's the leading candidate to US. But in the media and pretty much anywhere on TV or radio, nope. It's clear they are pushing HARD for Jackson. Russ isn't gonna' get it, no need to think he will. I hope to be wrong, but what would make anyone think he's actually going to get it at this point? Seems like the media has already made their mind up, and that likely WILL influence the decision. Pete has never won coach of the year, JS has never won Exec of the year, Russ not getting something he deserves like the MVP will be no surprise. Even if he SHOULD get it.

Exactly. This is the problem with merely looking at McKissics stats and then stating "better than Penny or Prosise". McKissic is on a different team with different players and a different offense. There's no chance he'd have 55 touches so far this season if he'd been with the Seahawks all season. It'd most likely be much closer to the 22 touches Prosise has, if that.

It also stands to reason that if either Penny or Prosise were on the Lions they'd be seeing more touches than they've seen here resulting in a much better looking stat line.

Circumstances matter, and in this case the OP completely ignored literally everything other than stat line.
