Hopefully he's in good playing shape, and isn't coming back for a quick cash grab before his NFL exit.

His attitude was a big problem in Detroit, but that franchise is a disaster anyway. Great pickup depending on the price.

As long as he's not "Buffets Harrison" now, I think he's a good fit.

He can play the Allen Branch, Tony McDaniel role for us. Maybe even playing on a contender with future HoF like Wagner and Adams may inspire him to have a few extra sacks this year.

Watch him sign with Green Bay after a minimum offer from Seattle. Pete the following week: "we just really believe in the guys we have and we're excited about what they're gonna bring us"

How does Harrison help us?

Is Harrison at all an effective pass rusher?

Or just good at stopping the run that nobody cares about?

Honest question, not intending to be snarky.

Would he help us get to the QB? At least free up some of our other guys to get to the QB?

He'd help other guys get to the QB. Harrison's a big bodied interior lineman that can not only make sure Reed and Ford aren't getting worn out, but he can command double teams to free up other guys.

So no, he's not a Bennett sack type of DT that can line up anywhere, he's a space filler and disruptor type of DT.

Reed's already got a sore back, we can't keep running him and Ford out there for 90% of the snaps. We need an edge rusher AND another interior DT. Harrison would fit that role.

An undrafted free agent out of NAIA school William Penn, Harrison started his career with the New York Jets in 2012 and played there through the 2015 campaign, after which he signed a five-year deal worth over $9 million a year with $24 million guaranteed with the New York Giants, where he earned First-Team All-Pro honors his first year in 2016.

Ahead of the 2018 trade deadline, Harrison was traded to the Detroit Lions and played there until this last season, after which he was released and has been a free agent since.

Harrison stands 6-foot-3 and weighs roughly 350 pounds and has been an elite run stuffer in the NFL for a number of years now

As several have stated above, our DT depth is very weak. With both Reed and Ford having to play extra minutes they will not survive in peak shape by seasons end. We need a stronger DT rotation and Snacks would be a good fit for this team. I think JS and PC know this and hopefully give him a contract that shows we want him here. Just dangle RW in from of him and how we may be to a Super Bowl invite and ring. That could do the trick.

I still want Clay though as well. We need someone who can get to the QB to pressure and/or generate sacks. In a limited role he would do both.

I think he'd be a very positive addition to push the mid DLine to prevent opposing QBs from stepping up in the pocket. This helps the edge rushers as the Qb can't escape into protection.

He was very good at that in his earlier days.

My only concern is the reality of the team only having between $5-6 million of available cap and the size of a deal that could be struck.

If he is in shape and motivated, huge upgrade.

Keeping bodies off of Bobby and Jamal so that they can fly around and hit people is vitally important.
