  • In the history of the Seahawks, have we ever been 5-0? Ever before?

If no, why not? Surely we've had more balanced teams with the same kind of schedule. Why is this team winning this year? And if you only say Russ and DK, then you're not watching all of the games in their entirety.

  • I believe that Russ is playing at an MVP level and is as good as he's ever been. The trust he and Schotty have developed over the last couple of years is bearing fruit, and Schotty being up in the booth is likewise paying dividends. I believe that Pete and Russ are incredibly well-matched mentally and emotionally — both are positive to the point some think they're putting on an act (they aren't), relentlessly competitive, and incredibly hard-working. I believe the extra time Russ spent with DK and others is paying off big time.

Carson looks outstanding, but there's a drop-off after him. Homer is good on ST and blocks well. He hasn't really shined thus far as a runner. Hyde needs to get healthy. DJ showed a couple flashes, but he’s green. I suspect we may see more of him if he shows he can block as well as Homer and has all the assignments/protections down. We also have no way of knowing to what degree Penny will assist due to his injury late last season.

The O line is better this year, and considering we have three new starters, that's saying something. Lewis needs to clean up the false starts, but overall he's done fine for a rook. Ethan is doing very well as a fulltime center. Shell isn't a world beater, but he is not terrible either. He's quietly doing his job and is reasonably successful at it. The line play should improve as they get more time together as a unit. Jones and Simmons are both getting reps, which is important for their development.

Michael Dickson is man. He was more than worth moving up to the 5th round in last year’s draft. Walsh hasn’t had much to do other than PATs, but he’s nailed the few FG attempts he has had. I honestly can’t even remember who the current long snapper is, which probably means he’s doing his job well.

I believe the lack of OTAs and preseason badly impacted the defense. The rash of injuries has further set the D back. I think the safety combo of Adams, Diggs, and the surprising Neal could be excellent once Adams is healthy and they've had time to play together more. Ugo has played well at nickel, and Shaq has played much better the last couple of games. The weakness in the DB corps is on the other side, where Flowers seems to have lost confidence and is playing too tentatively, and Dunbar is new to the scheme and has a somewhat iffy knee. I’m not sure what the answer is there other than time.

KJ is playing out of his mind. He may prefer the other side, but he’s been money since the switch. Bobby is a little “off” (but still really good overall). He may be pressing too much. Barton is improving, but he might need to get a little bigger. I’m curious to see what Brooks can do when he gets back.

And that brings us to the D line and pass rush. We don't have that one big-name type of sack specialist, and losing Bruce hurt us. We also haven't seen Rasheem Green yet, or the rookie, Taylor. We have to hope those guys get healthy and contribute. Mayowa has gotten good pressure (which helped with some of the turnovers) but isn't getting home a lot. He needs help. Reed showed up against the Vikes, but he's been playing a lot of snaps. Hopefully Harrison can help plug the middle, enabling other guys to get to the QB. As with the O line, more time as a unit —and getting everyone healthier — may have a positive effect.

Are there some issues with this team, particularly on defense? Yes. But these guys will fight to the bitter end, and if it's at all feasible, they will pull out a win. They have grit and character, and that's a reflection of the leadership of Pete, Russ, Bobby, and KJ. Pete’s teams usually improve as the season progresses, and getting guys healthy should aid that.

The Hawks are 5-0, and there is reason for tempered optimism. Enjoy the journey!

  • Some of us have believed in them the entire season. And they are about to get a lot better.
We all look at it our own way, and that's fine. But at 5-0, people still complaining after every WIN. Meh, really a waste of energy and/or way to look at things. Just my own opinion. But I'm just a homer so...….. :irishdrinkers:

The Seahawks are 5-0. They can't keep winning games like that.

But they did, they are, and they will.

    That's right!

See here is the thing that all of you doubters are missing, every time the Seahawks pull out a victory like this its just one more reason for them to know who they are. one more reason for them to believe they are the best... one more reason to believe. they have been winning games like this for a season and a half almost every game... they dont know any different its the norm...

you might be right when you guys say the Seahawk D has flaws... but.... the Seahawks D doesn't go into the game believing that... and that's what makes Carroll such a special coach he gets his players to play better than they have talent... because they BELIEVE...This is the WHOLE premise of a Pete Carroll team it's what he believes and it's the staple on his philosophy. It's not about stats, it's not about conventional thinking... Its the real "Pete ball"

Again the D makes the crucial stop at the end of the game, just like they do every game, "you know the D that suck a$$" then Russ and the O comes on the field and takes care of business... ok just another day at the office!

When the fans believe what the players believe then it gets WAYYYY intense... I believe we are watching NFL history...

How long is it going to take before you guys believe? are we going to have to be 16-0 and then will you believe?

  • Think about all the guys that are missing on the Defense. Adams, Dunbar missed time and is clearly playing injured, Snacks, Brooks and Green all should be back after the Bye week. That's a hell of a lot of solid players to add to the mix.

  • :sarcasm_on: How can we possibly believe in this team when the head coaches behavior is "slowing eroding the team culture" & "we have no heart"? :sarcasm_off:

Yes, these 2 things were actually posted on this board the last 2 days.

  • It isn't reasonable or rational to expect we would go undefeated.

Not sure why 1 loss would matter unless:

1 - We absolutely get our doors blown off

    or

2 - Some of the issues already frustrating fans result in the loss

The only loss that will matter is a loss in the playoffs. Other losses should be expected.

  • I generally avoid jumping on the hyperbole train. I don't believe we have proven we're one of the top 4 teams in the NFL yet. That can change after the next 5 weeks.

Seattle is just absolutely magical in games where the scores are close. They've honestly been that way for the better part of a decade and I lay the cause for that squarely at Pete's mantle. In prime time games. In games where we are underdogs. Our success has been amazing and fun to witness. Pete creates an atmosphere where the team's faith in the process puts them in a position to emerge victorious when the slightest opportunity presents itself.

But therein lies the rub. Those opportunities present themselves far more frequently with teams that make mistakes at crucial moments. There are other teams that play cleaner and won't grant those opportunities. Furthermore, this team is still generically short on talent compared to the better teams in the NFL.

Our blueprint for winning games is uncharacteristically narrow for a Carroll coached team. We aren't particularly great at running the ball. Particularly in instances where everyone knows we're going to run it. We aren't particularly physical at the point of attack and can be pushed around defensively by other OL groups. We are exceptional in our passing efficiency, but actually quite a bit poorer at 3rd down conversions than even last year. Honestly, if Seattle were some other team, I'd be casting them as a team built to succeed early in the season but whose fortunes will predictably wane as the weather and conditions turn to winter.

I still see this team as largely similar to last year's club. Good against the middle tier teams who share similar gaps in talent and are going to be prone to make the kind of mistakes that Seattle will leverage into the turning points of games. Against the better teams with defenses that will hold us into the 17-24 point range -- I see us still being a very real blowout loss candidate.

These next 5 games will kind of be the litmus test. Cardinals, Bills, Rams, Cardinals is going to be the roughest stretch of the schedule. All four teams capable of beating us by 10+. But also teams that we can beat. Thus far, we've not faced one winning team yet, and have shown the ability to dictate pace and flow with lesser opponents -- as well as our customary ability to pull rabbits out of hats despite being significantly outplayed for most of a game by a lesser talented team.

It's when we are outplayed by a better (or equivalent) talented team and can still produce that magic that my belief will be cemented. That's coming due imminently. And I can't wait.

  • 12-4 feels pretty doable and realistic right now. That would have them going 7-4 the rest of the way. Very doable and they are capable.

I would agree with you when you say its not rational or reasonable for the Hawks to go undefeated under a normal set of circumstances... But I dont feel the Hawks are like every other team... This team doesn't know what is reasonable or rational... they dont think that way...

Belief within yourself is a magically powerful thing... and everytime this team pulls out a win when a typical NFL team might lose just adds to the belief of who these guys are...it's building quickly!

Now thats a deep concept that most people dont understand...its the primary reason for Carrolls success as a whole.

This team believes... Russell Wilson Believes that this team can beat anyone, anytime, no matter what the circumstance they are faced with... there is no reasonable or rational logic to it... which is why most people dont understand it... and why Carroll doesn't even try to explain it anymore... Read Carroll's book...

Every year there is something special about the Hawks that gives them the identity for success but this year is different...This is a special group...

I dont put anything past Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson... NOTHING...

and with that said we will see what happens,

And with each win, that confidence and belief grows stronger. It's a powerful sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

I hope that along with that belief comes better execution and more consistency throughout the game. I'd love for that same belief to reveal itself throughout the game, not just when it must show up.
