Not buying that narrative necessarily. There's more at play here and I've watched enough all 22 this year to see that a good bit of whats happening is attributable to shortcomings in wilson's play. They didn't abandon the deep ball. They threw it mid-long to long quite a bit over the 2nd half of the season. What was missing was the short to mid range stuff to beat the coverages they were seeing. Game after game, the shallow middle was ignored. Short and hot routes also ignored or flat out missed. And even Pete expressed the desire to take more of what the D gave. We just didn't do it. Russ and Schotty didn't do it. Which one is more to blame? I don't know.
