"The last 5 Superbowl winning teams spent below average in Free Agency the 3 Years prior to winning it all"

In other words, you win through the draft, and signing good players (NOT "Superstars") to team friendly, short-term contracts!!!

Of course it helps if you're a team that's been losing for years and has multiple high 1st Round picks! And why do those teams lose and get all those high 1st round picks? Because the don't have an elite QB.

Great Listen:

JAKE AND STACY -- Hour 3 - Warren Sharp on spending wildy vs. spending wisely in free agency

How do NFL teams balance the need to add veteran talent in free agency without breaking the bank and crippling themselves going forward?

Jake and Stacy are joined by Warren Sharp to get the third hour going. Later, are we losing confidence that cooler heads will prevail between the Seahawks and Russell Wilson? What I Need to Know wraps up Thursday.

Listening to Dave Wyman, and he quotes stats the belie the story that Pete went to running the ball all the time. Pete slowed down the passing plays a "little" after Russell threw 7 Interceptions in 2 games!

2020 Russell Wilson

RW first 8 games 297 passing attempts Plus, he threw the ball 13 times VS AZ in OT

RW second 8 games 261 passing attempts
Didn't play in 4th quarter against Jets

And the story that Pete went away from throwing on early downs in the 2nd half of the season? False.

Per Dave Wyman:

1st half they ranked number one throwing on early downs.

2nd half, they ranked number 7 throwing on early downs

And finally, per John Clayton:

"All 4 of the teams that Mark Rogers mentioned they'd consider a trade to? They ran the ball at a higher percentage than Seattle did."

I think the grass is "deader" on the other side of the fence.

"2020 Rushing attempts

The key to the efficacy of those stats is success rate per attempt. I think the "attempts" stat is oversimplified, and so is Pete's actual statement. He actually said he wants to run the ball more efficiently, not that he want to run the ball more.

Great point. Leonard Fournette did not run very well during the regular season, but came on in the playoffs. That doesn't say much about Fournette. Unless he needed to learn the system. But there's a reason Jacksonville cut Leonard after spending such a high pick on him...poor management.
