That's not how they do things.

At this moment, only 19 players are signed thru 2022. That's among the fewest in the league.

John Schneider likes flexibility.

Was a Poona fan all the way to UT.

Glad to hear this, but why only 2 years?

Same. When we signed him as an UDFA I was happy. Height be damned.

I'm not surprised. With the cap situation following the pandemic, it will probably be two years before the cap gets back to levels we were seeing before. That way he can play out this year, get a look at what the long term prospects with the cap are and go for another deal then.

2 years? Don't you mean 5 years.
^^^ THIS ^^^ Poona Ford is one of the unsung hero's for the Seattle Seahawks, and one of my favorite 'Undrafted' plyers of the last two years......Don't screw this one up John, he's earned the right to be moved to the front of the line :2thumbs:

The point of doing 5 years is you can spread the proration of his signing bonus out /5 instead of /2 = lower cap hits. Then over the long haul the contract gets cheaper and cheaper as bigger DT deals continue to be signed year after year. The guarantees run out after 2 years and the guy can be cut if he happens to fall off, which he likely won't.

This is just not the way to maximize the salary cap and maximize the ability to add to the roster.

But only 2 years has great flexibility for teh future… That they already traded for Jamal Adams. This team makes no sense. They're always saving this nest egg, that they inevitably blow on JAGs.

5 years = lower cap hit = better.

Should've only extended Pete two years so they could remain flexible there as well. If flexibility is that important.

Loved this guy when he came on the "maybe" radar before the draft. Loved it when they signed him and I love him now (as a player). :D

Being short gives him leverage under the OL's pads. :2thumbs:

Perhaps Ford only wanted 2 years so he can test the market once the cap has recovered.

This move actually likely reduced his cap hit for 2021, and its incentive-laden with an unclear base value. REALLY team friendly deal with the incentive (vs. long term) for Poona of hitting market sooner.

Now if we can get Dunlap back, I think we're good on D except for depth.

Love having him back in the mix. Will be interesting to hear the REAL numbers and cap hits after the fact. Seems like the original numbers are big time inflated when the stories first come out.
