I remember him almost going 1st in the draft and how Mora thought he won the lottery with him. It was almost impossible to live up to his hype.

Irvin was a solid player his first few years here. Getting banged up a bit now. If he's done, wish him well.

Well, that answers at least one question concerning our LB corps. :229031_shrug:

Best wishes, Bruce.

Thanks for the memories. Will always remember the Green Bay game where Erin Rogers got sack something like 8 times in a half. Irving was a terror in that game. A thousand times better than Curry.

For those that don’t remember, Pete and John drafted Irving. The famous 2012 draft started Bruce, Bobby and then Russ.

Ah yes, that was the "fail mary" game. 8 sacks in the first half, Chris Clemons had 4 of them, Iron and Mebane 2 each. 0 sacks in the 2md half and a miracle to win the game.

Had a career year for sacks the year prior to last. I think 8.5.
Would have been interesting to see what he could have done had he not gotten injured last year.

Irvin considering retirement makes me wonder if rehab didn't go so great. I always liked him, but also wished he could have been more consistently impactful.
I'm going to assume that it's 95% money-related. He's 33, coming off a major injury, and he's stated he only wants to play for Seattle (or a contender). In this market, he's probably only worth $2M/year with very few guarantees. That's what I think he's wrestling with. Is it worth the effort to get back into football shape when he has no guarantees to make the team, and he won't earn close to the money that he's accustomed to making.

I never bought into the Curry hype. I was pissed because the team was full of holes, and linebacker was one of our few bright spots with Tatupu, Peterson, and Hill, and we dealt Peterson just to make room for Curry.
