  • Wowzers, that answers any questions about if he's going to be traded. I'm assuming this is yet another deal where money can be moved around to create space. I don't get the "he's washed" comments at all, but just my opinion. He has plenty left in the tank. Here's to hoping for another 100 catch season...... :irishdrinkers:

It was the right move, but that is a lot of money to Lockett when DK is up for a new contract in a few seasons.

Hopefully, they’ll drop some expiring contracts and have enough to pay DK as well.

All in all, a great Seahawks extension. You have to pay the guys that perform sooner or later.

  • And from what I heard, the cap hit would have been 14 mil in 2021 Will be interesting to see the cap numbers for each season. That being said, the "way too much" posts will likely be flying in soon.

  • $14,950,000 was the old 2021 OTC cap number.

When it comes to the art of improvisation, no receiver enables a quarterback better. This really cements the Wilson to Lockett combination. Good Times Ahead.

  • Good, thought he was overpaid on the last extension he got. I won't make that mistake again.

I did think the talk he could get traded was ridiculous. He may not have DK's freakish measurables, but there's nobody more reliable in the league to make a tough catch. I don't think I've ever seen a receiver with better body control. Glad he's sticking around.

  • This is very good for the team and the player.

I'm happy he is going to be playing for us for the next few years. He has excellent chemistry with Russell.

Depending on the exact layout of the deal, it will be interesting to see how they proceed from here. This allows John and Pete agency moving forward to be aggressive.

  • Just heard a ridiculous stat on Tyler.
He averages 3.4 yards of separation per play. The EXACT same number as Tyreek Hill.

Although well intended, that's incorrect. It must be due to a misunderstanding of referenced numbers. :229031_shrug:

The title of the thread jumps the gun a bit. The wording from the tweet is "Seattle Seahawks are giving WR Tyler Lockett a four-year, $69.2 million contract extension". Next will come an announcement of an actual contract signing.

A contract must first be signed and turned into NFL offices before we typically become privy to reliable contract details. Once we on the outside have the details, the amount of cap space it created can then be calculated.

  • The real point is John is creating money, we are not as cap strapped as thought with these extensions now, Wags and Russell have not been done yet if they are going to be done at all. We still have guys to sign, we are making room and keeping core guys and the future intact.

  • Great to hear this one. Sounds like more manipulation to move money around. Maybe this forebodes something with KJ or Dunbar...would be nice to hang onto at least one of them. Preferable Dunbar, really. We have young guys stepping up to cover KJ's spot.

    $25M Signing Bonus
Age / Year / Salary / Cap Number / Dead Money if Cut
    28 / 2021 / $2M (Gtd) / $7M / $37M
    29 / 2022 / $10M (Gtd) / $15M / $30M
    30 / 2023 / $10M / $15M / $15M
    31 / 2024 / $11M / $16M / $10M
    32 / 2025 / $12M / $17M / $5M

  • I'm more patience than some and am content to wait on the details.

However, for those in a hurry ........ Tyler's base salary for 2021 was $11,000,000. So $11,000,000 minus the $900,000 for a CBA mandated minimum salary number for 6 year veterans leaves a total of $10,100,000 the team can move around. Some or all of that $10,100,000 could be converted to a signing bonus. With a four year extension added to existing year, 4/5ths of a prorated signing bonus ($8,080,000) could be applied to future years.

So, up to $8,080,000 less the current #51st highest roster number of $660,000 potentially results in a maximum of $7,420,000 available for cap space with the current 51 man roster.

The actual numbers depend on the actual signing bonus and performance and incentive details.

Given all the interest, actual numbers may leak out soon.

    ....................................................................

EDIT: Note that there is a distinction to be made between team cap space and player cap number. If the team creates the maximum cap space it can with the extension, Tyler's cap number for 2021 could be reduced to 2,250,000 + 500,000 + 1,200,222 + 2,020.000 + 900,000* = $6,870,00* while retaining existing bonuses and incentives. We'll see

Updated: * forgot to included the $900,000* minimum vet salary.

I know they are just doing their jobs, but it's always a nice surprise when the ACTUAL numbers come out. Look at Hyder, that contract was way better than was originally reported.

  • 1) I am glad Lockett got extended.

    2) This should dramatically lower Lockett's cap number for 2021 for those that care.

    3) Pete wants to be a running team but is looking at paying QB1, WR1, and WR2 all top dollar. Makes sense.

For sure it makes sense and make you wonder just what Pete's true agenda is for this season.

Perhaps Pete has really got a different actual agenda than just being a running team.

Sorry Fade, I don't believe Pete said he wants the Seahawks to be a "running team". I believe he said we need to run the ball more effectively. There's a world of difference there. Please return to your normal dispassionate and rational analysis, which I like to read during the regular season.

No he is not. His hands, catches, tds, toe taps and ability to get open say otherwise. Oh yeah and his yac too. Dk is not the only one who breaks away. Yeah sure tyler will go down easy, but it usually after a massive gain or trying to slide under tackles. Dk literally has nothing on him but size.

  • Woohoo! This is good news. I wanted him re-signed. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but the front office has never put us into serious cap hell like a lot of other teams front offices have, so I'll defer to them on that. And good for Lockett! One of my favorites. He's clutch and fun to watch.

Because you automatically win the game if you have the receiver with the most toe-taps.

Yeah, no. DK is better overall. Bigger, faster, stronger, healthier (both are healthy, but Tyler obviously plays injured more), and more productive. That's not a slight to Tyler, but this is not even remotely close to a competition.

Yea..Im in this boat a bit. Its not horrendous..but it feels a bit heavy. DK is going to need a contract during Locketts and thats going to be a tremendous amount tied up between Lockett, DK and Wilson.
