I think we stole Eskridge out from under McVay's nose

I'll bet Sean was drooling over this kid, and Waldron knew it! 'cause they took someone similar, but not nearly as good right after us. :stirthepot:

Reading comments in the Athletic, and one poster asked if we should be worried about D'Wayne. MS-D responded: "Not at all."

If you're considering getting a subscription to anywhere, i recommend The Athletic.

At the end of each article there are 3 ratings, Frowny Face, Meh Face, and Smiley Face. Most of my responses are smiles, with a few meh faces, but the reader instant rating keeps these writers on their toes.

I think you're right. No way he wanted Tutu Atwell over Eskridge.

Atwell's 165#. The first time he gets met by a NFL LB he's going to explode like a Mr. Potatohead.

Clearly the OC spoke with the Rams about thier draft intent before he left, its very possible they were high on Eskridge.

Possible.

I like that Atwell is three years younger though.

And in an interview with Atwell after the draft he said that the Rams told me not to be surprised if we didn't let him get out of the second round. Doesn't mean we didn't want Eskridge, but I've read enough context clues to think McVay wanted Atwell.

Now whether it was a good pick will depend on how his body holds up. Few Rams fans were happy with the pick, that's for sure.

I like that he was a running back, cornerback, and kick returner.

Strengths

Averaged 21.8 yards per catch over his last 74 catches.

High school sprint and long-jump champion.

Scored touchdowns of 72, 76 and 85 yards in 2020.

Scary burst for quick vertical separation if punch is whiffed.

Rapid foot turnover through the route.

Maintains good tempo through the route.

Able to plant and cut at fairly crisp angles.

Timing getting to full extension to make high-point catch.

Big time catch-and-run talent with instant burst to hit the home run.

Ability to stretch defense from the slot.

Averaged 27.5 yards per return with a touchdown as kick returner in 2020.

No one knows. Sometimes not getting the player you wanted works out for the best. Rams could have gotten the next Steve smith. Who knows. Time will tell.

We shall see how he performs in real NFL games.

So highschool speedster couldn't make it I. College or college speedster couldn't make it as pro when they met defense that were equally as fast or quick.

We shall see.

Sure reads like he has great feet. Might be the reason Eskridge was a must have for the new offense. Seems to be a fit for playing off defenders using what Tyler Lockett described as that “extra step”. He'll certainly benefit from lots of unselfish help from Tyler. And Doug Baldwin will likely pay a visit again in 2021. He'll have plenty of help learning the routes and creating separation.

In his first year, I'm rather enthusiastic about what he can bring to special teams.

He was on Kiper's list of BAP when they took him. When was the last time that happened i'll tell you all the way back when they took Earl Thomas.

WRs rarely make a huge impact their rookie year. It’s one of the more difficult positions to excel at right out of the gate. Unless you are a DK Metcalf. DK is an outlier as a WR in many ways. That being said, I’m not expecting much out of him as a wideout this season but as a returner may be something special. I’m optimistic about his future as a wr but not until his 2nd or 3rd year. Unfortunately we are going to see fans ripping his selection in the draft as a bust if he doesn’t splash his first year.
