Coach DeShawn Shead ....................

Shead was intrigued by the idea, but he also was concerned about the hours that come with an entry-level NFL coaching job, particularly with two young kids at home, but when he realized that his wife, Jessica, was fully on board, he decided to take Seahawks coach Pete Carroll up on his offer to join Seattle's coaching staff, and now Shead is beginning his coaching career as a defensive assistant/defensive backs coach.

"We brought into this program just an extraordinary competitor, a guy with character and integrity and toughness and smarts and all that, and you can't get enough guys like that around the program," Carroll said. "Interestingly, he's carried over our football and he has retained it and maintains a really good command of what we did, and the techniques of the cornerback position in particular, as well as the safety spot—he played all over for us, big time special teams player for us. So he just has a lot to offer. A lot of guys can play and they don't take that stuff with them; he did. And he's very sharp. So I expect really big things from him, and I think he's going do a great job immediately, but down the road, we're going to see DeShawn Shead do some great stuff. He's really talented."

I hope Shead does a great job. The Seahawks could use another db coach like Marquand Manuel or Kris Richard. He couldn’t be any worse than Nick Sorensen was. Glad Sorensen is gone.

Nick Sorensen, previously Seattle's secondary coach/nickel specialist, recently went to Jacksonville to become the Jaguars' special teams coordinator.

....................... there is no down side to the story. Nick Sorensen got a big promotion. Congrats to him also. :2thumbs:

I’d rather have him as a coach than a player.
Really liked the person, wasn’t thrilled about the player.
Congrats on his transition to a new job, hopefully he’s a success.

Shead was a glove, he played everything including the thumb, learned all the techniques plus special teams, Was never great at any but serviceable at all.

That is saying a lot in the NFL, he should be able to teach technique and reads very well to all.

The key is is he going to teach a more safe and disciplined approach or a aggressive one. Granted that has a lot to do with Pete and Norton, but our best defense when he was here was a down hill type secondary that dared you to come at them.

If and big if the D line can get sacks and pressure and make teams throw by stopping the run our secondary should flourish.

I hope he works out. The DB's haven't been good since Richard left.

He's got the right makeup and understanding of the game, shown by his seamless transition between positions in the secondary. Bright future. Possible future HC.

He could never get his head turned to play the ball in the air. He would blindly just throw his hands up hoping to knock the ball down. Get your head turned so you can see the ball and make a play. He always struggled with that.

Like I said I’m happy for him as he has always seems liked a great guy on and off the field.

I was specifically talking about his coverage skills as a DB, and playing the ball in the air, which IMHO is the most important skill as a DB. That’s why Sherm was so good, he excelled at playing the ball.

Shead did most everything else well.

Those are the kinds of people that usually do well as coaches. Superstars usually don’t make great coaches, it’s the guys that had to bust their butts to keep a job as a player.

I place zero value on assurances from former players turned coaches. Sheaf may be a stand up guy, but extrapolating out to coaching prowess is wish casting

Coach Carroll and company have a nice track record. DeShawn Shead will likely follow in footsteps of Kris Richard and Marquand Manuel.

It's gonna be an inspiring story to watch unfold. :2thumbs:
