so out of 23 pass attempts, 16 were short that's 70% I can do this for every game he played this year you will find very similar numbers.

So is it the OC or Russ?
Middle third 0-9 yards he was bottom 5 for every year but one. Was it due to lack of TE talent? Was it play calling? Was it play design? How can he be so elite and so bad at the same time?
It is one of the more interesting aspects of who Russ has become as a player.

I doubt it.
We started this year using the TEs too.
Now we don't even use them with Geno.
So how would it only be Russ?

Russ ranked 29th, 32th, 30th, 29th, 16th, and 30th for passing over the short middle third of the field 0-9 yards.
It is just another aspect of Russ's enigma, in 2020 when he was 30th in middle third passing the team was horrible on 3rd down conversions ranking 21st and elite in the red zone conversions ranking 4th.

Out of the 8700 or so pass attempts Brees threw at NO 558 of them were in routes. That is roughly 2.6 or 3 passes per game on average he was able to complete them for 14 yards per completion. The average depth of out routes completed was 9.1 yards and he threw them 1298 times.
What Brees and Payton really excelled at was using these two routes to kill teams with seem and go routes. He only completed that route 516 times for a whopping 14367 which was about 21% of all the yards he gained with the Saints.
With these numbers in hand, we have to start wondering what Russ would look like if he was running a NO style passing attack and what other players at doing with this short middle routes to set up other routes.

Not to mention a little common sense. Wilson has a career 102.3 Passer rating and career 65.2% comply percentage, and a 7 ypa. It is impossible to have those numbers and not throw a lot of short passes.
