but it does matter.... It's going to and is going to significantly affect the Seahawks ability to build the roster in the future.

Apparently, we have different levels of confidence in the program and the key people who run the program.

Yes, it sucks. But on a brighter note the rest of the picks are fairly high per each round.

We have now missed the playoffs 2/4 of the last years, gone through a soft rebuild after we missed in 2017 and this is the result. I have ZERO trust in Carroll at this point. We're never going anywhere underneath Pete Carroll. He's accomplished everything he's going to accomplish here.

With the playoffs expanded, just making the playoffs isn't so impressive anymore, close to half of the NFL gets in now. The Jamal Adams trade was a trade with disastrous results. We paid franchise QB money for an inbox safety.

We would have just used it on a 3rd round talent anyway.

You're mistaken. We haven't missed the playoffs 2 out of the past 4 years. We missed the playoffs in 2017, made the playoffs 2018, 2019, 2020, and have now missed the playoffs again in 2021. Including this season, we have now missed the playoffs 2 out of the past 5 years. Does anyone know if making the playoffs 60% of the time is good or not? I don't know, haven't looked it up, but I suspect that's probably pretty good and probably better than most.

Also, according to you we went through a soft rebuild in 2017 and this 7-10 season is the result. I would argue that after going 9-7 in 2017, missing the playoffs, and going through a soft rebuild (again, according to you), we then went 10-6 in 2018, 11-5 in 2019, and 12-4 in 2020. Those were the results until we finally had our first truly bad season in the past decade.

:177692: Relax ...........

The front office isn't hobbled by or limited to draft capital. It is resourceful in using all avenues. The late season performance of Jake Curhan is among the latest examples.

Can you update the thread title so it’s accurate? They’re getting the 10th overall pick, as has already been noted in this thread.

Yes it is. Stop fooling yourself, this is the 10th overall pick. The chance for Seattle to get truly game breaking talent. Pete Carroll himself even used the excuse once "but we haven't been picking in the top of the draft". Well, now we are and we used in on Jamal Adams, a player that has been truly underwhelming here. Two members of our Super Bowl team, Okung and Thomas were high draft picks.

I'm not boxed in to only the draft as a talent avenue. I'm cognizant of many avenues of team building. I also take pleasure in enjoying a player development program. I'm confident in the program.

I think you overestimate the depth of quality at the top of this draft.

And the fact that even very high 1st round draft picks bust more often than they become "truly game breaking" players.

We have $53M in cap next year.

That's enough to sign DJ Reed, Diggs, Terron Armstead/Orlando Brown, AND Von Miller/Chandler Jones.

Throw in Stephon Gilmore (e.g.) if we cut Bobby...

I'm thinking we weren't worried whether our pick was 10th or 32nd this year when we traded for Adams.

Jamal Adams hasn't exactly been a game breaking player for the Seahawks either, in fact in many cases he's been a liability. Our lackadaisical approach towards the first round has cost this team dearly. Another thing the draft affords is the ability to sign players on the cheap. Three of our major contributors to the 2013 SB win were drafted by Pete in the first round. You don't get Thomas or Okung without those high picks, even Bruce Irvin was a major player at 15. It also provides you the option of trading down for more picks.

Face it, we gave up way too much for Jamal Adams and it was a bad decision.

Sssshhhh... we're supposed to be freaking out over not having a first round pick this year, how much of a disaster that is, and how not having that pick will cripple this franchise for years to come.
