KC Salary Cap. With Chris Jones

How does KC remain under the salary cap with their roster?

Maholmes (10-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs worth up to $503 million)
Frank Clark ( 5 year, $104,000,000)
Tyreek HIll ( three-year, $54 million )
Sammy Watkins (1 year, $9,000,000 contract)
Tyraan Matheiu (three-year, $42 million)
Chris Jones (Chris Jones signed a 4 year, $80,000,000)

Is their GM (Brett Veach) a genius or something?

Their cap hell is coming very soon.
A lot of money on those contracts is pushed
down the road ..PM will find out if he can do
it like RW had to for some time but not for a
season or two yet.

I think, as Hawks fans, we are overly sensitive about the long term ramifications of the salary cap because we were hit with a fairly bizarre and rare situation. Losing Kam to a career ending injury a year before his contract extension, losing Avril with injury guarantees left on his contract, cutting Sherman and eating some of his contract, etc... We went through a worst case scenario of sorts which has certainly left its mark on our psyche.

In the case of KC, they should be fine long term. Typically cap situations become untenable when you commit big money to the wrong player, or worse, the right player who then suffers a major injury. We saw this in LA with Goff and Gurley. They happen to represent both variants: Gurley's knee got progressively worse, and Goff is the living embodiment of mediocrity. I don't see any of those issues with KC. They should be able to plug and play guys and still get results with PM behind center.
