Titans close their facilities until saturday

  • "The NFL made it through 48 regular-season games without a serious COVID-19 issue. Now, the NFL has one. The Titans have closed their facilities until Saturday, PFT has confirmed.

"Obviously, they’ll prepare for Sunday’s home game against the Steelers remotely. But the Titans will be unable to practice. Which raises real questions about whether they’ll be able to play on Sunday, or whether they should be expected to play.

"There’s a fairly easy schedule fix, if the game is postponed. The Titans have a Week Seven bye, the Steelers play the Ravens in Week Seven, and the Steelers and Ravens have Week Eight byes. So the NFL could move Steelers-Titans to Week Seven and Steelers-Ravens to Week Eight, with Baltimore’s bye coming in Week Seven."

  • Theres no need to cancel their game on Sunday. Practice somewhere else this week, and play Sunday without the 3 players who tested positive.

I'm not sure what the NFL-NFLPA agreement says on this, but my gut says that's probably a factor and one that would not allow this.

Otherwise yeah they'd probably do as you said.

  • No need to cancel a game over a few players, just my opinion.
Plus, there were a ton of false tests before the season. This could end up being the same.

  • The Vikings are also closing their facility.

Not being able to practice or do S&C puts teams at a competitive disadvantage, even if they get to play later in the week.

Unlike the MLB, there's only so much shuffling the NFL can do with the schedule if problems keep popping up.

Thursdays, Saturdays I bet if they wanted, Mondays, and Sundays, they have a open date with a Bye also to roll into.

Issue will be if you start having multiple teams have issue.

  • From Florio:

"NFL “wants and intends” to play the game as scheduled Sunday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, but a contingency plan is in place to move the game to Monday night. That would allow for additional testing and contact tracing to occur. It also would allow the Titans an extra day to practice.

"The NFL has moved games from Sunday to Monday in the past for natural disasters, conflicts with MLB’s postseason and even the collapse of the inflatable roof at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

"The NFL also could move the game to Week Seven by moving the Steelers’ Week Seven game against the Ravens to a week later when both have a scheduled off week."
