I get that the Dolphins probably had their sights set higher than 9-8, but going from 1-7 to playoff contention and a winning record feels indicative of tremendous coaching, even if coaching played a role in why they got into that hole to start with. If going 8-1 over the final nine games wasn't good enough for their front office, then why wasn't he fired halfway through the season? At least then you can evaluate some interim guy.

Reports are that Flores didn't have a good relationship with Tua or the GM.

That is probably because Tua sucks.
Insane to fire Flores.
He should NOT take another DC job.
He won in Miami! Built a fantastic defense without a lot of gold bars.
Then won without a freaking QB.
Sure, the start of the year he struggled...he had no QB!
But he figured it out, even beating the Patriots...who the Dolphins usually struggle to beat.
Not sure what people are thinking.
Flores is 2x-3x the coach that Pete is right now.
He is easily better than a number of HCs keeping their jobs.
That he can win without a freaking QB speaks volumes. And his defenses are solid.
And he won with Tua...with Tua! (who is a glorified backup)
